Porters B moving in to challenge for top spot

PORTERS B remain in third place with an unblemished record after 16 matches in the Plymouth City Super League, and are now moving in on the second placed berth, as well as a game in hand on the tabletoppers.

They defeated Ships Tavern 8-3 and had Mike Beard and John Mann both hitting a brace of 180s while Malcolm Johns emerged a 3-0 singles winner, aided by a leg in 13.

League leaders The Staddy also won with an identical scoreline when hosting Compton and had Dave Algar hitting a 15-darter in a 3-2 singles win, while Dartsworld, in second spot, emerged 7-4 winners away at Plympton Cons A, having Simon Stevenson (100x16) as their leading marksman.

DECISIVE: Steve Harris won the decisive points which gave Clifton A victory by the narrowest of margins against Maritime B.

Clifton A hosted Maritime B in a well contested fixture and the teams were level at 5-5 before Steve Harris won the 11th and decisive point for the hosts.

Paul Bowen (100x14) top scored for the winners with Neil White (100x14) replying for Maritime.

Two maximum scores from John Petherick was the highlight of Plympton Cons B’s 8-3 victory at The Albermarle and another brace was also achieved by Alfie Ford, which came in Octagon’s 11-0 whitewash of St Levan Inn.

Hyde Park Social Club defeated The Fawn 8-3 while Kings Arms and Maritime A both triumphed 9-2 over Victoria and Clifton B respectively.

A close encounter at Ker St Social Club was won by Kings Arms A after Martyn Down secured the winning point for the Oreston side.

They also claimed the week’s top checkout with a mark of 140, thrown by Pete Down when finishing the first treble of the match.

Other notable checkouts were recorded by: Steve Packer (120), Darren Collis (110), Henry Cooper (109), Andy Bond (100).
