Kings Arms recover from 5-1 deficit to claim victory

KINGS Arms made a remarkable comeback to recover from a 5-1 deficit in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League and win 6-5 away at Indian Inn, taking the last five singles for the loss of just two legs.

Warren Gordon won 3-0 aided by a 15-darter and at 5-5, Chrissie Kinnaird held her nerve to win the decisive point when defeating Steve Ebsworth 3-1.

League leaders Porters Patriots made it 14 victories on the bounce when winning 7-4 at second-placed Octagon Social Club who are now 22 points adrift.

Paul Tackle (100x18) caught the eye for Octagon while John Mann (27.33), for the winners, emerged a 3-0 winner in 14, 20 and 21.

DECISIVE: Chrissie Kinnaird held her nerve to win the decisive point which gave Kings Arms a 6-5 win against Indian Inn, despite trailing 5-1.

Behind the runaway leaders, only four points separates the next three teams which include Plympton Cons, who achieved maximum points when hosting Duchy of Cornwall.

Paul Bowen won in straight legs, aided by checkouts of 105 and 115 and there was also a 3-0 victory for Steve Hiscox which included a 14-darter and an excellent win for Dave Collins (30.06) in 14, 18 and 18.

City Social could not build on their early lead and only Glyn Wells and Maria O’Brien were successful in the individual phases as they were edged out 6-5 at Maritime Musketeers.

Robbie Newland hit a 14-dart leg in a solid singles victory as Fawn B took all the points that were on offer against Waterloo Inn, while a 3-1 victory in 16, 16 and 17 for Scott Hutchinson, inspired Maritime Misfits to an 8-3 win.

Porters Pretenders secured all but one of the 11 points on offer when they hosted Fawn A while Compton Social Club won 7-4 against The Clifton.

Brookside whitewashed Brewery Tap 11-0 but in the final singles of the fixture, Scott Lawrey was pushed the full distance by Kayleigh Adams before a 14-dart leg helped him achieve a 3-2 success.

Maritime Marauders achieved victories in three of the last four singles to win by the narrowest of margins away at Torpoint Cons.

In arguably the best singles of the match, Maritime’s Dan Puleston (100x11) edged out Neil Reid 3-2, aided by checkouts of 104 and 109.

Reid had also shown his finishing ability when checking out from 126, which would have been good enough to claim the week’s top checkout but was not forwarded for verification.

A finish of 122 from Scott Wapshott subsequently won the weekly award followed by outshots from: Paul Tackle (120), Fred Goldsmith (112), Dave Collins (111), Gary Griffin (105), Rob May (104), James Duke (100), Paul Tozer (100).
