Title contenders neck and neck at top of league table

February 2, 2018

THE two main title contenders are neck and neck at the top of the Monday Premier League, just one point away from the 200-point barrier.

Maritime A won 7-4 against Prince Maurice in a fixture that produced 106 throws of a ton or more and had Dan Johnson winning 3-1 in 13, 20 and 20.

They have now been joined on 199 points by Porters A who defeated Brookside A 8-3.

Jon Matlock hit two maximums in a 3-0 win and John Mann (100x14) top scored whilst also winning his singles in three straight legs.

STYLE: Mark Hatherley won in style for Firkin Scholar and emerged a 3-1 winner in 13, 16 and 19.

Quinton Taylor hit a 15-dart leg before going on to a 3-0 singles victory, inspiring Steam Packet B to a 9-2 defeat of The Bluebird.

A 15-darter was also achieved by Steve Daley in a 3-2 victory, but he ended up on the wrong side of a 7-4 scoreline when Octagon were beaten by Firkin Scholar.

Mark Hatherley, for the hosts, won in style and emerged a 3-1 winner in 13, 16 and 19.

Steam Packet A secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer when they visited Indian Inn B while Porters B also won convincingly when restricting Ford Hotel to just two points.

Railway Inn returned from City Social with a 9-2 victory, helped by a 3-0 win from Alan Masters whose best legs were won in 17 and 16.

Sean Taylor and Mike Tate won their doubles 2-0, aided by checkouts of 116 and 120 from Taylor, which put Maritime B 3-1 up, only for Brookside B to turn it around in the individual phases with four victories which helped them win by the narrowest of margins.

Indian Inn A are in third place, 11 points off the mark despite a 7-4 success away at Prince Maurice B.

Darren Smith for the hosts though caught the eye, when he finished at the first time of asking from 144 to deliver the week’s top checkout.
