Third defeat for The Staddy . . . but still title favourites

THE Staddy lost for only the third time in 22 matches but despite being knocked back into second place, are still the favourites to lift the Plymouth City Super League title in June.

They were defeated 7-4 by title rivals Porters B in an excellent fixture that produced 123 throws of a ton or more, five of which were maximums.

Four of the six singles went the full distance and the victory has put Porters B back on top of the table but The Staddy have a game in hand.

Plympton Cons A secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer when hosting Porters A, while Octagon Social Club went one better and whitewashed Clifton B with Fred Goldsmith (100x11) and Lee Hellings (100x11) as their leading marksmen.

BEST CHECKOUT: Steve Hiscox finished a 15-dart leg with a checkout of 161 which proved to be the week's best.

Compton Social Club returned from the The Fawn with a 7-4 success while Hyde Park came from behind and clinched the last two singles to prevail by the odd game of 11.

Kings Arms A defeated Dartsworld 7-4 but Simon Stevenson (33.40) earned the plaudits when he emerged a 3-0 winner in 14, 17 and 14.

Clifton A overcame Victoria 9-2 while Maritime A won 7-4 away at St Levan Inn.

In the best singles encounter of the fixture, Maria O’Brien defeated Phil Hoyle 3-2 with the two players putting 21 throws of a ton or more on the scoreboard.

Quinton Taylor was on target with a 15-dart leg but ended up being edged out 3-2 by Reg Matthews as his Albemarle side were defeated 7-4 by Kings Arms B.

Maritime B defeated Plympton Cons B 9-2, aided by a good 3-1 victory from Darren Collis who took a leg in 14.

Steve Hiscox, for Cons B, also impressed and in winning 3-0, finished a 15-dart leg with the week’s highest checkout of 161.

Also on target with notable finishes were: Steve Brocklesby (115), Tony Sansom (112), Jeff Chambers (111), Dan Johnson (110), Phil Hoyle (105), John Mann (101).
