Maritime still top despite Devon Super League defeat

MARITIME have suffered a second defeat in their Devon Super League campaign but, with a reduced lead of four points, still top the premier division.

They were edged out 5-4 by Royal Anglers (Bideford), despite holding a 3-1 advantage.

Dave Matthews (22.32) got the Plymouth side off to a good start when winning 4-1 and although the hosts levelled, Neil White (27.08) restored Maritime’s advantage when winning 4-0 in 18, 20, 16 and 20.

Glyn Wells (25.25) added another victory when he emerged a 4-2 winner in 16, 21, 18 and 18 taking the last leg with an outshot of 120.

15-DARTER: Mike Pearce finished a 15-dart leg with a checkout of 139 for Maritime Social Club in their Devon County Super League fixture away at Bideford.

Royal Anglers then took four on the bounce to avenge their defeat in the first half of the season before Mike Pearce (26.74) won the final encounter 4-1 in 16, 22 and 18 before finishing in 15 with a checkout of 139.

Porters Patriots, although sitting in the relegation zone, have now achieved two victories on the bounce, their latest success coming away at The Racehorse (Tiverton).

Despite losing the opening set, Phil Stewart (24.74) levelled in four straight legs before Pete James (23.16) edged Porters in front when winning 4-2, aided by checkouts of 118 and 110.

Lee Rodmell (25.01) added to the scoreline with an accomplished 4-2 success. He went 3-1 up when finishing a 15-darter with a kill of 118 and at 3-2, closed it out with a win in 14.

The hosts pulled one back, only for Porters to restore their two-game advantage when Andy Bates (26.55) obliged when at 2-2, he won the next two legs in 14 and 16.

Antony Hayman (28.39) followed with a man of the match performance and was also taken to 2-2 before he responded with wins in 12 and 14.

The penultimate point was won by the Tiverton hosts before Dave Roberts (20.95), after being taken to 3-3, secured the seventh and deciding leg in 18 which he finished with a checkout of 113.
