Still tight at the top despite 26-match unbeaten run

MARITIME A remain undefeated in the Monday Premier League after solid victories in weeks 25 and 26 but they can’t seem to shake Porters A off their backs who are only three points behind in second place.

The league leaders won 10-1 away at Railway Inn and were prevented by taking maximum points when Rich Coombs defeated Dan Johnson 3-1, aided by a leg in 13.

They followed that victory up with an 8-3 win over Indian Inn A.

John Mann (100x15) was the talisman for Porters A in their week 25 victory against Prince Maurice when they won by a 9-2 margin.

TOP AVERAGE: John Mann emerged a 3-0 winner in 15, 18 and 15, achieving a single dart average of 31.31.

Glenn Halford was a lone winner for the hosts and defeated Scott Wapshott 3-0 which included a leg in 15.

Mann was again at the fore the following week, but Porters were pushed the full distance and came from 3-1 down, before edging out Railway Inn 6-5 in a match that produced 102 throws of a ton or more.

Mann (31.31) won 3-0 in 15,18 and 15 and threw the highest checkout of the week when finishing at the first time of asking from 138.

Jon Matlock also caught the eye and in winning his singles 3-2, took out a 15-dart leg and hit two maximums.

In week 25, Mark Williams inspired Steam Packet B to an 8-3 success against Indian B when hitting two 180s in a 3-2 singles victory while Jim Orchard top scored with 17 throws of a ton or more as Firkin Scholar defeated Prince Maurice A 7-4.

The highest checkout in week 25 was achieved by Rich Coombs with a mark of 156 while other notable outshots over the two weeks were achieved by: Tony Lamerton (136), Mike Whatley (131, 114), Pete Webb (125), John Mann (121), Alfie Ford (115), Teresa Brookshaw (114), Mike Miller (113), Matt Nicholson (111, 106), Jerry Jewell (106), Jordan Grimshaw (104), Mark Henley (100), Andy Bates (100), Al Rowe (100), Charlie Brunton (100).
