Premier survival given boost with Super League victory

PORTERS Patriots have moved one place above the relegation zone following a convincing premier division victory away at Rowing Club A in the Devon County Super League.

They returned from Paignton with a morale boosting 6-3 success that will hopefully maintain their premier division status come the end of the campaign.

Reg Matthews (19.11) achieved the Barbican side’s first point with a 4-1 success which was followed by a 4-2 victory from Paul Gavican (24.23).

MAN OF THE MATCH: Andy Bates claimed a man of the match average of 29.66 when winning 4-1 in 17, 15, 17 and 16.

Antony Hayman (26.03) won in four straight legs, aided by a leg in 15 before John Mann (27.83) emerged a 4-0 winner in 17, 18, 17 and 20.

Phil Stewart (25.05) earned the team a match-winning fifth point when claiming victory without loss before Andy Bates (29.66) claimed a man-of-the-match average when emerging a 4-1 winner in 17, 15, 17 and 16.

League leaders Maritime increased their advantage at the top of the table to six points following a 7-2 success away at Rowing Club A (Paignton) but it was a defeat for their ladies team who went down 6-1 away at Flying Arrows (Dawlish).
