Where did all the lady darts players go to in Plymouth

WHILST carrying out more research recently on Plymouth darts, I was intrigued to be reminded of how strong the ladies’ darts scene once was in the city and ask the question: “Where did all the lady darts players go”?

In the early 1980s, league matches would be contested by teams of nine, which would be followed by two reserves playing for the “Half Crown”.

Plymouth’s main ladies’ darts leagues consisted of:

Courage Ladies: Five divisions, 12 teams in each division.

Ladies’ Independent: Four divisions, 12 teams in each division.

Devonport & District League: Five divisions, 12 teams in each division.

Halls Ladies League: Two divisions, 10 teams in each division.

Taking the minimum number of 11 players per team, the above equates to over 2,000 players competing on just a Thursday evening across the pubs and clubs of Plymouth.
