Misfits and Brookside maintain second spot challenge

MARITIME Misfits and Brookside continue to compete for second spot in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League, with just three points the difference as they continue to battle behind runaway leaders Porters Patriots.

Misfits won 9-2 away at Brewery Tap in a fixture that produced five maximum scores, two of which were recorded by Dan Scott.

Keelan Kay was again prominent for the winners and in achieving a 3-0 singles victory in 15, 17 and 18 earned himself the week’s top average of 30.06.

Brookside hit five 180s in defeating Plympton Cons 8-3, led by Scott Lawrey who achieved a brace in a 3-0 singles victory.

CONTENTION: Fred Goldsmith was on target for Fawn B with a solid 3-0 singles victory and is one of four players, separated by a single point, who are in contention for the singles title.

Dave Collins (100x13) caught the eye for Cons as their top scorer and was again noticeable when partnering Steve Brocklesby to a 2-1 doubles victory, aided by a leg in 17.

Torpoint Cons came from 4-2 down to edge out Indian Inn 6-5 while another win by the narrowest of margins was achieved by Duchy of Cornwall, only their third in 25 starts, when they hosted Waterloo Inn.

Kings Arms went from 3-0 up to 5-4 down when hosting Octagon Social Club before they won by the narrowest of margins after victories from Jim Pitkin and Paul Hendy.

The Fawn derby match was won by the B team when they restricted their stablemates to a single point and they had Robbie Newland registering three maximum scores of 180, two coming in a 3-1 singles victory.

Fred Goldsmith also caught the eye when winning 3-0, aided by a 16-dart leg, and remains one of four leading contenders for the individual title.

Maritime Marauders defeated City Social 7-4, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Falstaff when entertaining Maritime Musketeers.

Harry Bull emerged a 3-0 winner for Falstaff, aided by a 15-dart leg and Danny Bull (100x12) top scored, while Brian Tritton achieved the week’s highest checkout when finishing at the first time of asking from 150.
