MARK Shears inspired the Pretenders to victory in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League when, in winning 3-0 in 20, 17 and 15, he achieved the week’s top average of 28.90.
Scott Wapshott also gave a good account of himself and emerged a 3-0 winner, aided by a leg in 14.
League leaders Porters Patriots won 8-3 away at Falstaff while Brookside consolidated second spot when winning 7-4 against Torpoint Cons.

In the best singles encounter of the fixture, Gary Phillips (100x14) took a leg in 13, only to be edged out 3-2 by Lee Rodmell (100x14) to make the scoreline 4-4, before the Honicknowle side secured the remaining three points without dropping a leg.
Maritime Musketeers secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer away at Waterloo Inn while in a much close fixture, Maritime Marauders edged out Fawn B 6-5.
Mike Pearce (100x13) was a 3-1 winner for Marauders in 18, 19 and 18 while Fred Goldsmith (100x14) triumphed 3-2 in 19, 19 and 21 for Fawn.
Despite Fawn coming from a 5-2 deficit to draw level at 5-5, Marauders clinched the spoils when, in the final game, Jason Pinkerton defeated Dave Jones 3-0.
Plympton Cons won 9-2 away at Fawn A and City Social also won on the road when they defeated Duchy of Cornwall 7-4 while in another success for the visiting team, Compton Social Club prevailed 8-3 at Brewery Tap.
Neil Edwards top scored for the winners and recorded 13 throws of a ton or more which included a brace of 180s.
Tony Reid was one of only two winners for the hosts and in claiming a 3-2 singles victory, clinched his best leg in 15.
A well-contested fixture at Kings Arms saw Maritime Misfits win by the odd game of 11 with Scott Hutchinson and Dan Scott both hitting two 180s.
Chrissie Kinnaird (pictured left) was the top player for the Oreston outfit and top scored with 16 throws of a ton or more which included an outshot of 134.
Hutchinson pipped her for the week’s highest finish though, when he shot out at the first time of asking from 148.
