Barclay clinches decider to bank win for Octagon B

BROOKSIDE A are now the outright leaders of the Monday Premier League and the only side who can boast an unblemished record.

Their opponents Firkin Scholar played better than their league position would suggest though and the Honicknowle side only got home by the odd game in 11, in a fixture that produced five maximum scores.

WINNER: Paul Barclay won the deciding 11th point as Octagon B came from 5-2 down to inflict on Steam Packet B their first defeat of the campaign.

Steam Packet B lost for the first time when they were edged out 6-5 away at Octagon B, despite holding a 5-2 lead.

The home side took three on the bounce to make it 5-5, before Paul Barclay earned the plaudits when emerging a 3-1 winner in 19, 17 and 20.

Maritime could never recover after falling 4-1 behind and crashed to their second reverse of the campaign when beaten 7-4 at Brewery Tap.

Antony Hayman (28.36) emerged a 3-0 winner in 18, 17 and 18 for “Tap” while Paul Palmer was Maritime’s leading marksman with 14 throws of a ton or more which included a kill of 150.

At the other end of the table, City Social picked up their first win with a 6-5 defeat of Bluebird A, coming from behind to clinch the last two singles through Jordan Grimshaw and Harry Downton, who both achieved 3-1 victories.

Ford Hotel and Prince Maurice A both won 8-3 against Steam Packet A and Indian Inn B respectively while a similar winning scoreline was also achieved by Octagon A.

Their victory came at the expense of Porters B and had Dave Pethick hitting a brace of 180s from an 11-ton haul and was well supported by Bill Rennie, who emerged a 3-0 winner with his best legs coming in 18 and 16.

Steve Barnes won the decider with a checkout of 109 after previously taking out a finish of 132 to aid Cherry Tree to a 6-5 win away at Plympton Cons.

Porters A secured all but one of the 11 points on offer away at Hyde Park Social Club and there was also a 10-1 success for The Tradesman.

Their victory came away at Brookside B and they had Andy Waters (100x13) firing in the highest checkout of the week when he finished at the first time of asking from 160.

Bluebird B defeated Prince Maurice B 8-3 with Mark Henley scoring two maximums in a 3-1 singles success.
