Brewery Tap denied victory despite good comeback

AN excellent Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League fixture was contested at Brewery Tap, with 108 scores of a ton or more recorded, but the hosts were denied victory, despite coming back from 5-1 down to level at 5-5.

The only point Tap had won from the first six encounters was a treble which Maria O’Brien finished with an outshot of 147.

She then emerged a 3-1 singles winner in 16, 21 and 20 followed by a 3-0 success from Kieran Burns (27.33) in 14, 18 and 23, the 18 darter being finished off with a kill of 140.

But at 5-5, and after Peter Holland (100x13) had been productive for the visitors, Lee Agar won the all important 11th point to give Maritime victory by the narrowest of margins.

Porters Pretenders defeated Cherry Tree 10-1 with solid victories from Dan Brazier in 20, 20 and 21 and Mark Shears (28.36) who was a 3-0 winner in 16, 18 and 19.

The one point that eluded them though was won by Kayleigh Adams (pictured left) when, in winning her singles 3-1, she recorded the week’s highest checkout of 148.

Porters Patriots consolidated their position at the top of the table with an 8-3 win away at Duchy of Cornwall with John Mann (100x11) and Antony Hayman (100x11) both impressing while The Office also won on their travels and defeated Compton Social Club 9-2.

Third placed Victory A secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer away at Maritime Nutters and had Neil White and Darren Collis both hitting 13-dart legs as they impressed in the individual phases.

Falstaff whitewashed Indian Inn 11-0 and Kings Arms won 9-2 away at Victory Inn B while Maritime Marauders emerged 7-4 winners when hosting Fawn B.

Dave Matthews was on target for Marauders and hit a maximum 180 in all three disciplines while Mike Pearce (28.90) (pictured right) caught the eye in the singles when, after going 2-0 up with two 20-dart legs, he threw 140-121-100 before checking out from 140 for a win in 12.

Maritime Governors won 7-4 away at Indian Inn A and had Danny Allen top scoring with 12 ton plus throws which included a brace of 180s and he also emerged a 3-1 singles winner, aided by his best leg in 14.

Octagon secured maximum points away at Fawn A, winning all six singles without dropping a leg.

Alfie Ford was their talisman and won in 16, 17 and 18 for a 29.47 average.
