Porters chase down league leaders with maximum win

November 17, 2018

PORTERS A were the only team to win in double figures when taking maximum points off Ford Hotel and are now only seven behind Monday Premier League leaders Victory A, but with the advantage of a game in hand.

Victory defeated The Tradesman 8-3 and had Darren Collis (100x13) as their leading marksman while third placed Maritime Social Club lost some ground on the leading duo when they went down 7-4 at Octagon A in a high-quality fixture.

The best singles of the match saw Dave Hall edge out Maritime’s Kieran Burns 3-2, with both players hitting 15 and 17 darters while Danny Allen (180x2) also impressed in a 3-0 victory aided by legs in 14 and 15.

Plympton Cons defeated Victory Inn B 7-4, but the highlight of the match was a checkout of 144 from Kirsty Whiting-O’Brien (pictured left) for the Honicknowle side.

Mark Henley inspired The Bluebird to a 7-4 success, winning 3-0 with his best legs taken in 14 and 17 while Glenn Halford (100x14) top scored as Prince Maurice A triumphed 9-2 against Cherry Tree B, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Octagon B on their visit to Steam Packet A.

Firkin Scholar won the early exchanges against Indian Inn A to lead 3-0, but still required Brum Jeavons to win the deciding game for a 6-5 victory while also winning by the narrowest of margins was Steam Packet B away at Cherry Tree A.

Despite notching two maximums, Alan McIlhiney was edged out 3-2 by Mark Williams which gave Packet B their match-winning point.

Antony Hayman achieved the top checkout of the week with 160 but there has been no result sheet received by the league secretary for the City Social v Brewery Tap fixture.

Other prominent outshots were achieved by: Mike O’Brien (146), Darren Collis (118), Glenn Halford (116), Dave Hall (113), Keelan Kay (112).
