Shear class from Mark as he equals season's top game

MARK Shears (pictured below), produced an outstanding performance, equalling the season’s top game in the Plymouth and District Friday League when taking his 1001 singles in 26, to finish with a single dart average of 38.50.

His feat came in The Windmill’s 8-5 loss at home to Royal Naval Arms A, but this was an outstanding achievement, buoyed further by the fact that his first six visits to the oche returned no fewer than 795 points.

Andy Bates (100x14) won well for the Keyham side while Steve Marker (100x13) also caught the eye for Windmill.

Mark Sargeant hit two maximums as Fawn edged out City Social C 7-6 and there were also victories by the narrowest of margins for Dinky Diner A and Waterloo Inn against Brewery Tap B and Bull and Bush respectively.

Antony Hayman (29.44) won in 34, inspiring Brewery Tap A to a 10-3 success away at Dinky Diner B while Railway and Porters both won 9-4.

Queens Dock came from behind and won the last two singles to prevail by the odd game of 13 when hosting City Social B while Indian Inn B were the week’s biggest winners when securing an 11-2 victory away at Victory Inn.

Mainstone Social Club returned from Royal Naval Arms B with an 8-5 success while Octagon Social Club lost 9-4 at City Social A, but not before they had Dave Wyatt (27.05) winning in 37, aided by six ton plus scores.

The Tradesman looked to be heading for a comfortable victory when leading 5-1 but Indian Inn A began their revival and levelled at 6-6 which included a win in 39 for Paul Gavican (25.67).

But in the final encounter of the fixture, Mike O’Brien (25.67) delivered once again for The Tradesman and clinched the honours with the week’s highest checkout of 110.
