Maritime B edge fixture that produced 10 maximums

December 6, 2018

MARITIME B, despite leading 3-1, had to come from behind and win the last three singles away at Octagon Social Club to claim a 6-5 victory in an excellent Plymouth City Super League fixture.

There were 108 throws of a ton or more recorded, 10 of them being 180s, three of which were executed by Jon Easterbrook for the visitors.

Trailing 5-3, Mark Gilbery edged out Steve Packer 3-2, followed by Phil Hoyle (pictured) who, aided by the week’s top checkout of 154, emerged a 3-2 winner over Octagon’s leading marksman Lee Hellings (100x16), before the 11th and decisive point was won by Shaun Dring when beating Tony Perkin 3-1.

Porters remain the front-runners after a fine 10-1 win at The Fawn who had John Mann (100x14) as their top marksman.

Dave Roberts also caught the eye for the hosts and won their only point when defeating Paul Goundry 3-1.

Martitime A secured all but one of the 11 points when they hosted Victoria while Maritime C won by the narrowest of margins away at Cherry Tree.

Dave Johns recorded two maximums in a 3-2 singles victory, inspiring Ships Tavern to an 8-3 success against Ker St Social Club while The Albermarle were defeated 7-4 away at Kings Arms.

The Staddy continued their run of good form with a 10-1 defeat of Compton Social Club and had Marc Creswell (25.05) top scoring with 13 ton plus scores before emerging a 3-0 winner in 21, 17 and 22.

Plympton Cons B won 8-3 away at The Clifton for whom Andy Pengelly was their only winner and hit two maximums in a 3-2 success.

The Tradesman won 9-2 away at St Levan Inn which included a 3-1 victory for Paul Bowen over Ewan Johnson whose only leg was claimed in 15 with a checkout of 101.
