New Year will begin with joint leaders of Super League

December 28, 2018

THREE matches that were postponed from the weekend of the Devon Open rounded off 2018 and one in particular, enabled the Plymouth City Super League to have joint leaders going into the New Year.

Previous tabletoppers Porters suffered only their second defeat of the campaign when they went down 7-4 away at Maritime A, in an enthralling fixture that produced 116 throws of a ton or more which included eight maximums and 25 scores of 140.

Three of those 180s were recorded by Neil White (pictured below), coming in a 3-0 defeat of John Mann when winning in 14, 11 and 16 for an outstanding three-dart average of 109.98.

Team mate Stew Roberts top scored with 15 throws of a ton or more which included two outshots of 115 while Dave Matthews (100x15) was also prominent.

Maritime’s victory has now put them in joint top place with Porters, three points in front of Octagon Social Club who defeated St Levan Inn 9-2.

Maritime B secured all but one of the 11 points away at Compton Social Club which included a 3-0 singles success for Jon Easterbrook who took two of the legs in 15.

Shaun Dring was also prominent and finished a 15-darter with a kill of 120 before going on to take his individual game by a 3-1 margin.

Porters defeated Ships Tavern 8-3 in week 13 and received good service from Mike Beard (25.91) who hit two maximums when winning 3-0 in 17, 21 and 20.

Maritime A won 10-1 against their stablemates Maritime C with Neil White (100x13) and Stew Roberts (100x13) as their top scorers.

Maritime B defeated Kings Arms 8-3 while The Staddy won in double figures when restricting The Clifton to a single point.

Simon Kelly was a 3-0 winner aided by a leg in 15, while Warren Gordon (pictured below) also won in three straight legs, aided by a leg in 13, and an 18-darter which he finished with a kill of 144.

The Albemarle won the last two singles to prevail by the narrowest of margins when hosting St Levan Inn while Paul Bowen (100x14) caught the eye in The Tradesman’s 9-2 victory against Cherry Tree.

Ker St Social Club overcame Compton Social Club 7-4, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by The Bluebird when hosting The Fawn.

Glenn Halford performed well in the individual phases for Bluebird and won 3-0 with his best leg being won in 13.

Dave Collins (100x14) top scored for Plympton Cons A in their 10-1 victory away at Victoria while Fred Goldsmith (100x12) was on target for Octagon Social Club as they triumphed 8-3 away at Plympton Cons B.

Maritime A’s Neil White threw the week’s highest checkout with a mark of 154 while other prominent outshots were delivered by Mike Beard (120), Quinton Taylor (113), Hayley Brant (112), Kelvin Rowe (111), Tyler Wills (102).
