New record earns Glenn 21 ton salute in Super League

GLENN Halford (pictured) has set a new scoring record for an individual player in the Plymouth City Super League when he recorded no fewer than 21 throws of a ton or more, including two maximums, from just three disciplines.

He notched 15 of them in a 3-2 singles victory over Alfie Ford, when winning in 13, 18 and 15 and his team mate Lee Roberts threw the week’s top checkout when he finished at the first time of asking from 157.

But for all the heroics, and despite holding leads of 3-1 and 5-2, Bluebird were edged out 6-5 when, with the scoreline evenly poised at 5-5, Octagon Social Club’s Lee Hellings (100x11) won the decider with a 3-2 victory over Micky Organ.

Porters top the table by just a single point after defeating Kings Arms 8-3 and only two points separate the top three teams.

John Mann (100x12) top scored for Porters and Mike Sant (100x11) was a lone winner for the Oreston side in the individual phases.

Maratime A consolidated second place when they overcame The Fawn with the loss of just one point, spearheaded by Dave Matthews (100x11) and Stew Roberts (100x11).

The Albemarle must have suffered travel sickness on their long journey to The Staddy and had inflicted on them their worst defeat of the season when losing 11-0 with only three legs won in the six singles.

But all credit to The Staddy for a top performance that was inspired by Marc Cresswell, a 3-1 winner in 19, 19 and 22 and he remains top of the singles table, the only player who can boast an unblemished record.

Cherry Tree came from 2-0 to edge out Ships Tavern 6-5 and Ker St Social Club also made a good recovery when they trailed St Levan Inn 5-2 but took four on the bounce for victory by the narrowest of margins.

The Tradesmans took the scalp of Plympton Cons A by a 7-4 margin, in a high-scoring fixture that produced 106 throws of a ton or more.

The hosts, who had Paul Bowen (100x11) top scoring, led 5-0 but credit to Cons for giving it a good shot, led by Kelvin Rowe who emerged a 3-0 winner, aided by a leg in 14 and Dave Collins (100x11).

At the basement end of the table Victoria and The Clifton were both winless but that all changed when the two met and The Clifton tasted success for the first time by a 7-4 margin.

Plympton Cons B surprisingly suffered one of their heaviest defeats when they were beaten 9-2 on their own board by Maratime B while their stable-mates Maratime C were also in winning mode and defeated Compton SC 8-3.
