February 21, 2019

THE title race between Maritime A and Porters in the Plymouth City Super League is one that will probably go right to the line, but Porters moved to within two points of their rivals when winning 9-2 at Plympton Cons B.

It was a high-scoring fixture with 108 throws of a ton or more recorded, headed by Lewis Dare (100x14) and John Mann (100x13).

Maritime A, who have suffered just one defeat in 21 matches, won 8-3 at Octagon Social Club in a fixture that saw seven 180s recorded, two by Lee Hellings for the hosts.

Dave Matthews caught the eye in the individual phases when, in winning 3-0, his best leg was won in 14.

Dave Roberts (100x11) was prominent for The Fawn in their 9-2 success away at Compton Social Club while The Albemarle triumphed 7-4 against Victoria.

Plympton Cons A returned from the The Clifton with an 8-3 victory and laid down the gauntlet as early as the second treble of the match when Steve Brocklesby, Andy Malinowski and Dave Collins clinched their game in 31 darts for a 32.29 average.

Cons put 52 throws of a ton or more on the scoreboard, headed by Collins (100x14) and included two maximums from Malinowski.

Kelvin Rowe also caught the eye when, in winning his singles by a 3-2 margin, his best leg was claimed in 14.

Reg Matthews (100x14) inspired Kings Arms A to an 8-3 victory over Cherry Tree while a solid 3-0 singles success from Mark Gilbery (28.36), in 16, 16 and 21, was the highlight of Maritime B’s 7-4 win against The Bluebird.

The Staddy defeated Ker St Social Club 8-3 and had Warren Gordon (100x14) consistent throughout.

Two notable individual performances came from Dave Algar (pictured) who emerged a 3-2 winner in 13, 14 and 18 and Jim Pitkin, who won 3-1 in 21, 16 and 18.

Marc Cresswell got back to winning ways in the individual phases and hit two maximums in a 3-0 win and is one of three players on 20 wins at the top of the singles table, along with Stew Roberts and Neil White.

St Levan Inn were 5-1 up when hosting Maritime C but had to settle for victory by the narrowest of margins when Anna Johnson emerged a 3-0 winner to clinch the decisive sixth point.

Young Frankie Stout again impressed for the visitors and in winning his singles in three straight legs, hit a brace of maximum scores.

The Tradesman had Neil Reid notching two180s in a 3-2 singles success before they went on to defeat Kings Arms B 7-4.
