Taylor earns the plaudits as leaders extend advantage

February 27, 2019

QUINTON Taylor (pictured) earned the plaudits in the Plymouth City Super League when his stand-out performance inspired league leaders Maritime A to extend their advantage at the top of the table to five points.

In his side’s 9-2 victory over Kings Arms A, the Welshman notched two maximums in a 3-1 victory, which he won in 14, 14 and 15 for a 29.43 average.

Second placed Porters edged The Staddy by the narrowest of margins, but the result could have gone either way with no fewer than four of the six singles being won by the odd leg in five.

Paul Palmer caught the eye for Porters when he recorded a brace of 180s in winning his singles 3-0.

Three further fixtures also went the full distance with Plympton Cons B, Cherry Tree and The Albemarle all winning 6-5.

The Tradesman returned from Ker St Social Club with an 8-3 success and had Paul Bowen winning in three straight legs, with his best being claimed in 13.

Phil Hoyle (100x14) was consistent throughout for Maritime B as they restricted Victoria to a single point while The Fawn and Kings Arms both won 7-4 against The Clifton and Compton Social Club respectively.

Octagon Social Club did well to pull off a 7-4 win away at Plympton Cons A in a high-scoring encounter that saw eight maximum scores recorded, two of which came from Kelvin Rowe for Cons.

Lee Hellings top scored with 17 throws of a ton or more and his Octagon team-mate Alfie Ford, recorded the week’s highest checkout when finishing at the first time of asking from 141.

Other notable outshots were also achieved by: Seth Thompson (120), Lee Doncaster (120), Steve Brocklesby (120), Fred Lamerton (108/106), Reg Matthews (100), John Donald (100).
