Regal showing from Kings halts Pretenders progress

KINGS Arms produced arguably their best performance of the campaign in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League when they visited Porters Pretenders and inflicted on them a 9-2 defeat.

The Oreston side put up 54 scores of a ton or more, led by Dave Collins (100x12), Tony Gordon (100x12) and Warren Gordon (100x12) and were 9-0 up before Pretenders won the last two singles.

And they were two very good performances from Mark Shears (100x14) who won 3-1, aided by a leg in 12, followed by a 3-0 victory for Kev Lofthouse (26.37) in 15, 24 and 18.

Dave Algar (pictured), for the winners, also had the distinction of throwing the week’s highest checkout with a mark of 134.

League toppers Porters Patriots maintained their 19-point lead after they secured maximum points away at Maritime Nutters, scoring 61 ton-plus scores along the way.

Andy Bates (100x14) was prominent as were John Mann (100x13) who hit a 13-darter, and also Antony Hayman (100x14) whose best legs were won in 14 and 16.

Dave Matthews (30.67) was Maritime Marauder’s inspiration in an 11-0 defeat of Victory B and laid down the gauntlet right from the start when he hit two maximums in the opening trebles game.

He carried that form throughout the match before winning his singles 3-0 in 14, 15 and 20 as Marauders consolidated second spot.

The Office also picked up an 11-0 success when they visited Indian Inn B while Maritime Musketeers won 9-2 at Fawn A and Cherry Tree edged out Indian Inn A 6-5.

Jason Pinkerton was on target with a brace of 180s as Maritime Governors won 8-3 away at Compton Social Club and Robbie Newland (100x15) caught the eye as Fawn B triumphed 8-3 at The Melbourne.

Brewery Tap won 9-2 when hosting The Falstaff and put 60 ton-plus scores on the board, inspired by consistent performances from Maria O’Brien (100x13) and Glynn Wells (100x12).

Victory Inn A overcame Octagon Social Club 7-4 in a high-scoring fixture that produced six maximum scores, two of which were executed by Octagon’s Ralph Lancaster in a 3-1 singles victory.

The visitors also had Alfie Ford winning 3-0, aided by a leg in 14, while Kelvin Rowe emerged a 3-0 winner for the Honicknowle side, with his best leg being won in 15, while Scott Lawrey (100x14) top scored.

Notable outshots were achieved by: Scott Lawrey (118), Malcolm Johns (116), Phil Hoyle (116), Dave Matthews (116), Damian Noad (112), Kieran Burns (110).
