Tap compete well in week's top fixture despite defeat

April 12, 2019

BREWERY Tap lost 9-2 when entertaining unbeaten leaders Porters Patriots in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League but played a lot better than the scoreline would suggest and competed in an excellent fixture that produced 122 throws of a ton or more including nine maximums.

Porters had Andy Bates (30.67) emerging a 3-0 winner in 14, 16 and 19 while John Mann (100x15), despite taking a leg in 14, was taken the full distance by Glynn Wells (100x12).

Alex Turner (100x13) had to pull out all the stops to edge Maria O’Brien (100x16) 3-2, while 16-year-old Jordan Grimshaw (100x12) earned Tap’s only point in the singles with a 3-2 defeat of Malcolm Johns (100x11).

Second-placed Maritime Marauders defeated Cherry Tree 8-3 while The Office, inspired by a good showing from Andrew Nation (100x15), travelled to the Kings Arms with a player short and only lost 6-5 when they had to give away the last singles of the match.

Fawn B secured maximum points from their visit to Indian Inn B while Falstaff also won on the road and defeated Victory Inn B 9-2.

Maritime Governors won 7-4 away at The Melbourne and had Dan Scott (pictured) hitting two 180s before he finished a 15-darter with the top checkout of 141.

Compton Social Club returned to winning ways with an 8-3 defeat of Maritime Nutters while Octagon Social Club secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer when hosting Indian Inn A.

Tony Lamerton was on target for the winners with a brace of 180s while Dave Pethick (27.33) emerged victorious in the singles, winning 3-0 in 16, 19 and 20.

Porters Pretenders made a great recovery at home to Maritime Musketeers and won the last three singles to edge it 6-5.

At 5-5, Ian Downing hit two maximums in his quest to earn his Maritime side the winning point only to be edged out 3-2 by Mark Shears (100x16).

Ton plus checkouts were recorded by: Jason Johnson (135), Marc Cresswell (119), Jordan Grimshaw (110), Rob May (106).
