Snowy and OB will carry the flag for Plymouth in Wales

TWO of Plymouth’s England international darts players will be converging on Prestatyn this week to compete in the 2019 Pontins RedDragon Welsh Open and Classic.

Snowy Dyson, a member of the national team that won the inaugural WDDA World Cup will be starting his assault on Friday when he competes in the British Disabled Darts Association’s (BDDA) Welsh Classic, the draw for which will be made on the day at 11.00am.

The following day, Dyson will compete in the BDDA Welsh Open which is a ranking event to qualify for the WDDA Winmau World Masters.

Snowy’s opponent in the opening round of the Open will be Shane Havard who was a member of the Welsh team that lost to England in the World Cup final.

England’s No.1 ranked lady darts player Maria O’Brien will be hoping for a change of fortune when she competes across four days at the Welsh venue.

Carrying a two-week-old injury she did not perform to the best of her ability in Denmark last weekend, but will be hoping for better things when she competes in four events.

On Friday morning Maria will be the No.7 seed in the Welsh Classic and will play the winner of the tie between Ruth Bailey-Harris (Wales) and England’s Chrissie Halliday.

In the evening, OB and Lisa Ashton will be hoping to win their first doubles event since pairing up for the first time back in February in Holland.

On Saturday Maria will try her luck in the mixed doubles partnered with Lincolnshire’s Simon Stainton, a player who won through to the semi-final of the Romanian Open back in January.

On the final day of the festival, Maria, as No.9 seed will compete in the Welsh Open where her first opponent will be Rachel Parnell, representing the host country.
