Maritime defeat has handed title advantage to rivals

MARITIME A lost for only the third time in 34 matches, but this latest defeat could now possibly cost them the Plymouth City Super League title.

Only four points separated the leading duo before this fixture but there is now a 10-point deficit between the two contenders with just four matches remaining.

Paul Tackle and Tony Lamerton won the last two singles by a 3-0 margin to give The Tradesman a 6-5 victory while tabletoppers Porters A secured maximum points away at The Clifton with John Mann (100x13) top scoring.

Fred Goldsmith (100x13) caught the eye in Octagon’s 10-1 victory against Ker St Social Club when, in winning his singles, he secured his best game in 15.

Kings Arms B took all but one of the 11 points on offer when hosting Victoria, but their stablemates Kings Arms A lost by the same margin against The Staddy for whom Tony Gordon emerged a 3-0 winner, aided by a 15-darter.

Maritime C returned from The Fawn with a 9-2 victory and were buoyed by an excellent showing from 13-year-old Frankie Stout (pictured) who won his singles in three straight legs and achieved the week’s highest checkout with a finish of 134.

Maritime B won 8-3 away at The Albemarle, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Plympton Cons A against Cherry Tree.

Cons had Andy Malinowski hitting a 13-darter in a 3-2 win and Kelvin Rowe notching three maximums, two of which came in a 3-1 singles victory.

Not to be overshadowed, Dave Collins (28.36) hit two legs in 21 but in between put in a 12-darter when scoring 135-140-100 before checking out from 126.

The Bluebird returned from Compton Social Club with a 9-2 victory and had Glenn Halford on target with three scores of 180, two of which were achieved in a 3-0 singles victory.
