Champions on target to break the 350-point barrier

CHAMPIONS elect Porters Patriots took maximum points from Cherry Tree in their penultimate fixture of the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League and if they can win their final fixture with nine points or better, they will break the 350-point barrier for their 38-match season.

Alex Turner and Antony Hayman emerged 2-1 winners in the doubles taking the deciding 601 leg in 17 before Hayman went on to record three maximums throughout, making it 41 for the season.

John Mann was also prominent when winning his singles in three straight legs, including a 12-darter when scoring 140-100-140 before checking out from 121.

Brewery Tap defeated Melbourne 7-4 in a high scoring encounter that saw six maximums recorded. Maria O’Brien hit two of them but three were achieved by 13-year-old Frankie Stout (28.36) who was outstanding in his 3-0 singles victory, when winning in 15, 16, 22.

Porters Pretenders overcame Indian Inn A 8-3 and had Mark Shears and Dan Brazier both emerging 3-1 winners with their best legs being won in 13 and 15 respectively.

Maritime Governors had Jason Pinkerton (100x13) catching the eye in their 6-5 win away at Fawn B but was overshadowed by Fred Goldsmith (pictured) who top scored with 18 throws of a ton or more which included the week’s highest checkout of 156.

Maritime Marauders restricted Fawn A to just a single point scoring 50 ton plus scores throughout, including a brace of 180s for Tex Pearce who won in 21, 20, 17.

Also prominent in the individual phases was Mike Pearce who won 3-1 in 14, 16, 25 and Phil Hoyle 19, 22, 16.

Octagon’s two senior players, namely Ralph Lancaster and Alfie Ford (100x16) won the last two singles to claim a 6-5 victory away at Falstaff while Victory Inn A won 8-3 away at Kings Arms.

This high-scoring encounter produced 103 throws of a ton or more which included six maximums, two of which were executed by Neil White.

White and Gary Phillips emerged 2-0 winners in the doubles, aided by a leg in 15 while Dave Algar (100x17), for the Oreston side top scored.

Victory Inn B defeated Compton Social Club 8-3 while Maritime Musketeers and Maritime Nutters both won 7-4 against The Office and Indian Inn B respectively.

Notable checkouts were achieved by: Steve Brocklesby (130), Kelvin Rowe (111), Dave Pethick (100).
