THE much-awaited top-of-the-table clash between Victory Inn A and Steam Packet B in the Monday Premier League finished with Victory winning by the narrowest of margins, but the Devonport side remain favourites to lift the title having a match in hand on their rivals.
The high-calibre fixture produced 110 throws of a ton or more which included five maximums.
Victory’s Tony Tasker (27.33) emerged a 3-0 winner in 16, 20, 19 and was well supported by Keelan Kay who won 3-2, aided by a leg in 13. The England Youth international also top scored with 15 ton plus throws, including two maximums.
Plympton Cons edged out Indian Inn A by the odd game of 11 and had Adam Searle (29.47) (pictured) winning the all-important sixth point when claiming his singles in 16, 13, 22.
Victory Inn B secured all but one point from their visit to Steam Packet A, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Octagon A when winning 10-1 against Prince Maurice B.
Alfie Ford (100x13) top scored for Octagon B in their 6-5 win away at Porters B while also winning by the narrowest of margins were Bluebird A when hosting Cherry Tree.
Porters A won the last three singles including a win for Mike Miller (180x2) which enabled them to win 6-5 away at Bluebird B while Firkin Scholar returned from Indian Inn B with an 8-3 success.
Dan Scott’s victory in three straight legs, aided by a 14-darter, was the highlight of Maritime’s 10-1 win away at Ford Hotel while Brewery Tap also won on the road and defeated Prince Maurice A 8-3.
Antony Hayman hit a brace of 180s while winning 3-1 in 14, 18, 21 while Tony Teal (100x12) caught the eye for the Eggbuckland side.
Another win by the narrowest of margins, one of six on the night, enabled Hyde Park Social Club to defeat City Social, the highlight being the week’s highest checkout of 154 being claimed by Andy Hawes.
