Top placings remain unaltered as title hopefuls win 6-5

THE 10-point difference between the title contenders of the Plymouth City Super League remains the same after Porters and Maritime A both won by the narrowest of margins.

Porters edged out Octagon Social Club in a high-scoring encounter that produced 108 throws of a ton or more, including six maximums, two of which were achieved by both Paul Palmer and John Mann.

Palmer also caught the eye in a 3-2 singles victory, aided by two 16-darters while Octagon’s Dave Pethick (pictured) equalled the season’s highest checkout when he achieved a finish of 170.

Maritime A were pushed the full distance by Plympton Cons A but won the all-important sixth point when Quinton Taylor (25.91) emerged a 3-0 winner in 17, 19, 22.

Dave Collins (100x11) and Andy Malinowski (100x11) were prominent for the visitors and both won their singles aided by legs in 15.

Shane Roberts (100x13) top scored for Cherry Tree in their 9-2 win over The Fawn while The Bluebird triumphed 7-4 when hosting The Clifton.

Reg Matthews (100x12) top scored for Kings Arms A but finished up on the wrong end of a 6-5 scoreline when the Oreston side were edged out at Ker St Social Club.

An excellent showing from Dave Johns inspired Kings Arms B to an 8-3 success away at Maritime C, top scoring with 16 throws of a ton or more with 12 coming in a 3-1 singles victory.

Adam Searle was on target with two maximums as Plympton Cons B defeated The Albemarle 7-4 and there was also a brace of 180s from Warren Gordon as The Staddy took maximum points from St Levan Inn.

Victoria defeated Compton Inn 7-4 while Maritime B were 8-3 winners away at The Tradesman.

Jon Easterbrook hit two maximums for Maritime while Shaun Dring (28.36) was consistent throughout and top scored with 100x15 as well as emerging a 3-0 winner in 18, 15, 20.

Notable checkouts were achieved by: Jamie Roberts (125), Dave Clemson (124), Andy Malinowski (118), Kelvin Rowe (116), Rod Hillman (112), Dean Warne (110), Shaun Dring (108), Malcolm Johns (100).

As the season end draws near, the itinerary is as follows:

June 21: Final week of scheduled matches.

June 28: Reserve Week One: Kings Arms A v Victoria, The Bluebird v Plympton Cons A, Ker St v Porters, St Levan Inn v Maritime A.

July 5: Reserve Week Two: St Levan Inn v Victoria.

Sunday July 7: AGM and season pay-out at the St Levan Inn, commencing at 12 noon. All new teams must be represented.

Friday July 12: Players Championship finals at the Maritime Social Club. Play to commence at 8pm.
