Porters finish campaign as champions by 35pt margin

PORTERS Patriots won their final match of the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League to take the title by 35 points, having gone through their 38-match season with just one defeat.

Their 8-3 victory over Maritime Musketeers in their final fixture saw no fewer than nine maximums recorded, two each for Antony Hayman and Andy Bates.

John Mann (28.90) emerged a 3-0 winner in 14, 19, 19 and Phil Evans for Musketeers claimed the final week’s highest checkout award with a kill of 153.

Maritime Marauders finished their campaign with a 10-1 success away at Indian Inn A and take runners up with just five points to spare over third placed Victory Inn A.

Antony Hayman (pictured) topped the individual table with 113 points from a possible 114, followed by Porters team-mate John Mann (111).

Mike Pearce (110) finished in third with Scott Lawrey (109) just a point further back in fourth.

Hayman was also the outright 180s winner with a season’s tally of 43, 14 more than second placed Dave Matthews.

The league boasted two top checkouts of 170 throughout the season, executed by Scott Hutchinson and Maria O’Brien.

Tomorrow evening Porters will host the end of season singles competition and all teams should be represented by one player. All participants should be in attendance by 7.45pm when the draw will take place prior to an 8pm start.

The AGM and pay-out will take place the following Tuesday (July 9) at the St Levan Inn, to commence at 8pm.
