Top two set the pace with outstanding performances

THE top two teams in the Plymouth City Super League are setting the pace in earnest, evident that in their most recent matches, they jointly scored 128 throws of a ton or more.

 

Octagon Social Club, in second place only for the fact that they have played a game less than their rivals, secured another 11-0 result away at St Levan Inn.

 

They put six 180s on the board, two of which came from Fred Goldsmith and Goldsmith was also prominent in a 35-dart doubles (28.60) success with Lee Hellings before going on to take his singles in 15, 19 and 21 (27.33).

 

 Dave Matthews (24.24) followed with a win in 20, 20 and 22 and Dave Pethick (26.37) was also prominent in 17, 18 and 22 before Neil White (28.90) rounded off a superb display when he won in 16, 16 and 20.

 

Leaders Brewery Tap won 9-2 away at Steam Packet, putting 74 throws of a ton or more on the scoreboard which included 19 140s.

 

Antony Hayman (34.95) led the way in the singles with a 3-0 victory in 12, 15 and 16 and was well supported by Andy Bates who top scored with no fewer than 21 tons.

 

Victory Inn A defeated Plympton Cons B 8-3, the highlight coming from Cameron Pickard (pictured) who recorded the highest possible checkout of 170.

 

The Staddy returned to winning ways with a 9-2 defeat of Bluebird Bandits and had Dave Algar (100x13) top scoring which included checkouts of 106 and 116.

 

Maritime A edged out Plymouth Cons A 6-5, in a high scoring fixture that produced 100 ton plus scores.

 

Dave Collins, Graham Farrow and Kelvin Rowe secured their treble in 35 (28.60) before Collins went on to claim his singles in three straight legs, aided by a 15-darter.

 

Andy Malinowski (100x13) was consistent throughout for Cons A with Phil Hoyle (100x15) replying for the visitors.

 

Bluebird A took maximum points from Victoria and had Glenn Austin (100x13) top scoring which included three maximum scores.

 

Steve Harris also caught the eye when he won his singles in three straight legs, aided by a leg in 14.

 

Kings Tamerton Community Centre won 8-3 away at Kings Arms A and had John Brownlow scoring a brace of 180s in a 3-0 singles victory.

 

Kings B won a close encounter 6-5 away at Maritime B, boosted by a 3-1 victory for Dave Johns in 16, 16 and 17.

 

Victory Inn B won 8-3 away at Hyde Park while Cherry Tree and Ker St B were both 9-2 winners against Ker St Social Club and The Clifton respectively.

 

On target with ton plus checkouts were: Ralph Lancaster (148), Dave Collins (126), Simon Godfrey (125), Mike Phillips (124), Scott Lawrey (120), Rob May (112), Steve Hiscox (108), Antony Hayman (102), Melvin German (100).
