Early days but it's still going to be a two-horse race

IT’S only week 11 out of a 44-week season, but even at this early stage of the campaign only one of two teams are going to finish champions of the Plymouth City Super League.

Brewery Tap are currently top after an 8-3 win against Victory Inn A, buoyed by a top performance from Scott Cook (29.47), who emerged a 3-0 winner in 16, 19 and 16.

Just three points behind in second place, but with the added advantage of a game in hand, are Octagon Social Club who put 62 scores of a ton or more on the board when they defeated Plympton Cons A 9-2.

Neil White (100x16) was their leading marksman whose tally included a brace of 180s, and he emerged a 3-2 singles winner in 18, 18 and 20.

Best for the visitors was Dave Collins (100x13) who was a 3-0 winner with his best legs coming in 16 and 19.

Kings Tamerton secured all but one of the 11 points that were on offer away at The Clifton while in a much closer encounter Bluebird A edged out The Fawn 6-5.

Glenn Halford scored two maximums and claimed a leg in 13 as he won in straight legs while Dan Bunney caught the eye for The Fawn and notched a 14-darter before going on to win 3-1.

The Staddy returned from Plympton Cons B with a 7-4 victory, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Ker St B on their visit to Victory Inn B.

The fixture saw six maximums recorded, two by Ralph Lancaster and Ker St also received good service from top scorer Paul Goundry (100x13).

Matt Thompson won 3-0, aided by a leg in 14 as Steam Packet won 9-2 at Ker St A while Kings Arms A, St Levan Inn and Maritime B all won 8-3.

Maritime A were the biggest winners of the week when taking maximum points from their visit to Victoria and they also had Luke Johnson (pictured) registering the week’s top checkout when he pulled out a finish of 136.

Other notable outshots were recorded by: Paul Goundry (135), Steve Hiscox (114), Stew Roberts (114), Lee Wells (109), Neil White (102).
