Maritime still undefeated in Super League title race

MARITIME remain undefeated in the premier division of the Devon Super League after they defeated Octagonals 6-3 in a Plymouth derby fixture.

Maritime won the early exchanges through Danny (24.14) and Harry Bull (23.03) who were both successful in four straight legs before Mike Pearce (28.17) pulled one back for Octagonals when winning 4-3.

A man-of-the-match performance from John Mann (30.36) (pictured) restored Maritime’s two-point advantage at 3-1 but that scoreline soon moved along to 5-1 after Scott Hutchinson (28.23) and Glyn Wells (22.52) both won 4-0.

Dave Matthews (27.83) and Alfie Ford (21.79) won 4-2 and 4-3 for the visitors before Lee Hellings (22.06) delivered a 4-1 success for Maritime.

Ker St Social Club are still looking for their first victory of the campaign after they were defeated 6-3 on their own board by Exeter Eagles.

The visitors went 3-0 up before Marc Cresswell (24.55) halted the slide, winning 4-3, aided by a leg in 14.

But another three points on the spin went to the Eagles before Kelvin Rowe (18.73) and Darren Collis (20.98) both won for Ker Street who were 3-0 up and 3-0 down respectively before both winning the seventh leg.

Porters have climbed to the top of division one after winning 8-1 away at London Inn (Okehampton).

Paul Palmer (19.84) delivered the first point, followed by victories from both Antony Hayman (24.95) and Mark Shears (29.47).

Shears delivered a man-of-the-match performance with a 4-0 success in 16, 16 and 21 before checking out from 110 to take the fourth leg in 15.

Paddy Archibald (21.78) was also a 4-0 winner before Mark Odgers (26.71) pulled out a gritty performance. Three times Odgers trailed but three times he drew level before emerging a 4-3 winner in 17, 21, 16 and 18.

Paul Goundry (20.91) won 4-1, aided by a checkout of 104 before Scott Cook (25.49) won the last two legs to prevail 4-3.

Scott Wapshott (21.09) made sure of another point when he emerged a 4-0 winner, having won the first two legs with checkouts of 107 and 109 respectively.

Phil Hoyle (24.29) and Sean Burkitt (19.82) were the only winners for Maritime B in a 7-2 defeat by Pirates (Ottery St Mary) but Levy Ladies achieved maximum points in the ladies’ division.

They had to make the long journey to play Shipwrecks but the return journey from Crediton was all the more sweeter after a 7-0 victory, a result which now puts them just two points behind the leaders

Sarah Brown (15.53), Hayley Brant (22.20) and Trish Penberthy (16.25) all won 3-1 with Cat Callard (14.45) and Maria O’Brien (23.24) also delivering, despite having to go the full seven legs.

Anna Johnson (18.79) won without loss as did Chrissie Kinnaird (19.78) (pictured above) who finished a 15-dart leg with a checkout of 160.
