Packet defeated but gain new status as league leaders

STEAM Packet lost for only the second time in 16 matches in the Monday Premier League, but that did not stop them moving to the top of the table, albeit with a single point advantage.

They were edged out 6-5 by The Tradesman in a well contested fixture but had to rally from 2-5 down to lose by the narrowest of margins.

Luke Johnson (25.47) began their revival with a 3-0 win in 17, 24 and 18 followed by Neil White (100x11) who, in winning 3-0, claimed his best leg in 15 darts before Alex Brown won the last point of the match.

Quinton Taylor notched two maximums in his singles but was defeated 3-1 by John Mann who also caught the eye in the doubles when, partnered with Mike O’Brien, they took one of their 601 legs in 17 darts.

Nathan Langdon (100x13) top scored for Plympton Cons in an 8-3 win over Indian Inn B while Brewery Tap rattled up 52 ton plus scores and had Scott Cook (pictured) as their leading marksman who, in an 11-0 drubbing of Ford Hotel, top scored with 11 ton plus throws including an outshot of 114.

Maritime had to win the last two singles, which included a 3-0 win for Kieran Burns (100x11) in order to edge out Indian Inn A while also winning by the narrowest of margins were Bluebird A and Porters B against Victory B and Bluebird B respectively.

Victory Inn A won 8-3 at Bluebird D while Octagon B defeated Firkin Scholar 7-4.

Another closely contested fixture saw Bluebird C win by the odd game of 11 when hosting Porters A, with Glenn Halford (100x12) as their leading exponent but the visitors had some consolation when they had Sam Frampton throwing the week’s highest checkout with a mark of 152.

Other notable finishes were achieved by: Neil White (125), Danny Bull (117), Mark Hopkins (116), Dan Johnson (107), Kev Lofthouse (104), Dan Harbin (100), Dave Wyatt (100), Mike O’Brien (100).
