Octagonals return to winning ways in Super League

OCTAGONALS returned to winning ways in the premier division of the Devon County Super League and in a Plymouth “derby” match defeated Ker St Social Club.

It was the Devonport side though who won the first set through Kelvin Rowe (26.72) who won 4-0, aided by a leg in 14, before Lee Agar (22.11) brought the two sides level after winning 4-3.

Paul Barclay (22.88) won 4-3 to edge Ker St back in front only for Alec Turner (pictured) to win 4-0, securing the last leg in 18 with a brilliant 170 checkout.

Neil White (22.78) won 4-2 to put Octagonals in front for the first time and although Ker St levelled through Dave Algar (18.43) that was their last point of the match.

Fred Goldsmith (24.74) and Mike Pearce (19.46) both won in four straight legs before Lee Rodmell (24.24) rounded off a 6-3 win for Octagonals.

Maritime made it five wins out of five with a victory away at Royal Anglers (Bideford), despite having a player short.

Kieran Burns (20.83) opened the scoring for the visitors, winning 4-2 aided by a checkout of 120 before Glyn Wells (25.89) won 4-1. Leading 2-1, Wells took the next two in 16 and 14, notching a maximum in each leg.

John Mann (26.71) came from 3-0 down to win 4-3 in 14, 17, 18 and 17 before Harry Bull (24.27) pulled back a 2-1 deficit to win 4-2.

Maritime could only win one of the last four sets through Lewis Dare (24.14) but it was enough to give them a 5-4 victory and keep them in the title race.

Levy Ladies are in second place with a game in hand and remain undefeated after a 5-2 victory away at Heavitree Ladies (Exeter).

Lady of the match Anna Johnson (18.88) won 3-1, as did Wendy Johnson, while there were 3-0 successes for Sarah Brown, Chrissie Kinnaird and Cat Callard.
