Was Brewery Tap's performance one of the best ever?

BREWERY Tap went through the 200-point barrier with their 21st victory of the Plymouth City Super League campaign, in what was without doubt their best performance of the season and one of the finest displays I have had the pleasure to report on.

In their 11-0 rout away at Victory B they put 63 scores of a ton or more on the board which included six maximums, two of which were thrown by Andy Bates.

They began by taking the two trebles in 37 (27.05) and 36 (27.86) darts respectively before going 5-0 up with the three doubles won in 38 (26.34), 37 (27.05) and 39 (25.67).

Leading the charge in the singles was John Mann (31.31) (pictured) who emerged a 3-0 winner in 13, 18 and 17 before Antony Hayman won 3-1 in 16, 12 and 23.

Andy Bates (30.67) also won without loss in 13, 19 and 17 as did Paul Palmer (26.84) in 18, 17 and 21.

In the last singles of the fixture, Scott Wapshott (27.33) kept up the high standard with a 3-0 victory in 23, 14 and 18.

Of their 63 ton plus scores, 44 of them were recorded by Hayman (100x16), Mann (100x15) and Bates (100x13).

Second placed Octagon Social Club lost for only the third time in 22 matches when they were edged out 6-5 by Victory A in an excellent fixture that produced 120 throws of a ton or more which included four maximums and 33 scores of 140.

Neil White and Dave Pethick (35.75) won their doubles in 28 darts but with three singles to go Victory led 5-3.

White won 3-1 in 19, 22 and 22 followed by a similar victory from Lee Hellings in 18, 20 and 21 but with the scoreline evenly poised at 5-5, James Preen won the 11th point and the match for the Honicknowle side who had Andrew Waters (100x13) as their top marksman.

The Staddy secured maximum points when hosting St Levan Inn which included a 3-0 win for Marc Cresswell, aided by a 15-darter.

Sarah Brown, for the Keyham side also took a leg in 15 before going down 3-1 to Jon Donald.

Dave Collins once again inspired Plympton Cons A to victory and also helped his team to claim the bragging rights against stablemates Cons B.

Collins (28.36) emerged a 3-0 winner in 16, 19 and 18 and top scored with 15 throws of a ton or more.

Maritime B had Tony Reid hitting a brace of 180s in their fixture against Kings Arms A but despite leading 3-0, had to rely on Frankie Stout to claim the last singles to register a 6-5 success.

Paddy Archibald (100x14) caught the eye for Ker St B in their 7-4 victory away at Hyde Park, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by Kings Tamerton CC and Bluebird Bandits against The Fawn and Victoria respectively.

Bluebird A emerged 8-3 winners at Cherry Tree and winning by the narrowest of margins were Maritime A and The Clifton.

Clifton’s Mark Hempsall showed his finishing prowess with outshots of 152 and the week’s best of 161 while other notable finishes were achieved by Jeff Chambers (128), Dave Pethick (120), Melvin German (117), Steve Mills (112), Tony Lamerton (104.
