Maritime go top after victory in Plymouth derby match

February 4, 2020

MARITIME defeated Ker St Social Club 9-0 in the Plymouth derby fixture of the Devon County Super League and have now moved up the table to share the lead at the top of the premier division.

They are level on 49 points with Muff Boyz (Exmouth) and both sides have two matches in hand on their rivals.

John Mann (28.63) laid the foundations with a 4-0 win in 20, 14, 15, 21 followed by a 4-2 success for Kieran Burns (21.90).

Danny Allen (27.35) showed good form when emerging a 4-1 winner in 20, 19, 18, 16 before Glyn Wells (25.76) won by the same scoreline.

Lewis Dare (23.46) (pictured) emerged a 4-2 winner and showed his finishing prowess with outshots of 141 and 150.

Jaden Dodd (21.25) went the full distance but won 4-3 while there 4-0 victories for both Scott Hutchinson (25.05) and Mark Turner (23.86).

Leading 8-0, Lee Hellings (21.16) finished the rout when he came from 3-0 down to edge it 4-3.

Octagonals consolidated third spot when they edged out Winchester Warriors (Exeter) 5-4.

Alfie Ford (21.55) put the first point on the board when he came back from a 3-1 deficit to win 4-3 before Mark Williams (21.01) won 4-2.

Alec Turner (15.30)  won 4-0 aided by a checkout of 114 before Mike Pearce (22.96) won 4-1.

Dave Matthews (21.54) won the all-important fifth set when he prevailed 4-2.

Maritime B edged out Whipton Wasps (Exeter) 5-4 but would have expected more after leading 3-1.

Despite losing the opening set Maritime levelled through Frankie Stout (21.98) with a 4-2 success followed by Rob May (19.03) and Phil Hoyle (21.32) who won 4-1 and 4-0 respectively.

The visitors fought their way back into the game by taking three of the next four with only Shaun Dring (20.04) producing a point for the home side but at 4-4, Mikey Tate (22.77) won 4-0 for a 5-4 victory.

The Wanderers (Victory Inn) were given the run around by Galaxy (Torquay) and despite having home advantage were defeated 8-1.

But the lone winner was Richard Coombes (24.14) who won 4-0 and looks like he is back to his best form.

After struggling with dartitis for five months, he took a clean break for 10 weeks and hopefully he will now be a regular once more on the Plymouth darts scene.

In the ladies’ division, St Levan Inn won 5-2 against Flying Arrows (Teignmouth) to remain undefeated and are now just 10 points behind the leaders with a match in hand.

All five games were won 3-0 by Levy Ladies, consisting of Trish Penberthy, Sarah Brown and Cat Callard before Anna Johnson (20.59) put in a good showing but was pipped to the lady-of-the-match award by Hayley Brant (21.17) who also hit an outshot of 102.

Maritime Ladies remain next to bottom in the table after losing 6-1 to Country House (Exmouth).
