The Mirror Man is in the mix for tilt at UK Open title
NO fewer than 160 players will make their way to the Butlin’s Minehead Resort this weekend to participate in the 2020 Ladbrokes UK Open and Plymouth’s Simon Stevenson will be in the mix.
The unique multi-board tournament, which carries a total prize-fund of £450,000, will be covered live by ITV Sport and begins on Friday at 11am.
The first round will feature Tour Card holders 97-127 along with eight Challenge Tour qualifiers, nine Development Tour Qualifiers and 16 qualifiers from Rileys.
The first three rounds will take place on Friday afternoon with the PDC’s elite 32 entering at the fourth-round stage in the evening.
By virtue of Stevenson having an Order of Merit placing of 64, he is exempt from the competition until round three.
In round one on stage eight, Kevin Doets, a 23-year-old Dutchman will play Alfie Thompson who, at just 16 years of age, became the youngest of the Rileys contenders when he prevailed in the qualifier at Norwich.
The winner of that tie will face former UK Open semi-finalist Dave Pallett with the winner having to meet Simon Stevenson in round three.
At the conclusion of the third round, an open draw will be made live on the main stage for round four.
Players will compete for a £100,000 top prize, with prizemoney being paid down to the last 96.
