Porters remain on target for return back to top flight

PORTERS remain on course for a return back to the premier division of the Devon County Super League after defeating their nearest rivals Rowing Club A (Paignton) 6-3.

 

They now top division one by a point but have a game in hand over their promotion rivals.

 

Antony Hayman (25.10) put the first point up on the board with a 4-1 success and Scott Wapshott (25.05) followed in four straight legs.

 

 Phil Stewart (17.87) won 4-2 as did Mark Shears (24.88) with the latter hitting a 13-darter and achieving a win in 15 which he finished with a kill of 108.

 

The last four sets were evenly shared with home victories for both Scott Cook (26.72) and Mark Odgers (22.61) who won 4-1 and 4-2 respectively.

 

Maritime B lost their division one fixture when they went down 6-3 at home to Torquay’s Galaxy.

 

Dan Johnson (22.97) and Malcolm Johnson (21.94) won the first two points for Maritime but the hosts could only win one more from the remaining seven.

 

That was a 4-2 success for Shaun Dring (26.20) (pictured) who bounced back from a 2-0 deficit which included a 15-darter and an outshot of 118.

 

Levy Ladies bounced back from their only defeat of the campaign to win 6-1 away at Golden Girls (Bideford).

 

Chrissie Kinnaird (22.77) opened the scoring when she won 3-0, aided by a checkout of 102 before Sarah Brown also showed her finishing prowess in a 3-0 win and checked out from 138.

 

There were also victories in three straight legs for Hayley Brant, Maria O’Brien and Trish Penberthy before Anna Johnson came from 2-1 down to win 3-2.
