OB bids for spot in PDC World Championships
PLYMOUTH’S queen of darts, Maria O’Brien, is back on the competitive trail this weekend when she competes in the World Series of Darts and the PDC Ladies’ World Championship qualifiers at the Barnsley Metrodome.
The PDC will stage a four-event Women's Series, and two places in the 2020/21 World Championship will be on offer based on prize money won across the four events to be held on Saturday and Sunday.
The mini-tour replaces the two separate qualifying tournaments for the World Championship which have been staged over the past two years, offering £20,000 prize money in total across the four events.
Ahead of the four PDC Women's Series events, a separate, Grand Slam of Darts Qualifier will be staged tomorrow, offering one place in November's tournament.
Due to the Covid pandemic, Maria’s last competition was back in February when she claimed her second Slovak title in as many years with an outstanding performance in Šamorín.
She defeated Anastasia Dobromyslova in the semi-finals before claiming victory over Deta Hedman in an excellent final.
With the scoreline level at 3-3, O’Brien edged in front with an 11-darter and although her opponent levelled in 16, Maria claimed the title when winning the ninth and deciding leg in 15.
The Business Development Manager will be hoping to replicate that form over the next three days.
