Brookside leading the way but it's tight at the top
IT’S getting very competitive at the top of the Monday Premier League, evident in the fact that just three points separate the leading quartet.
Brookside A are the current leaders, albeit by a single point, and the only side with an unblemished record after 15 matches.
They won 10-1 away at Hyde Park Social Club and had Keelan Kay emerging a 3-1 winner, aided by a leg in 14.
Steam Packet B have moved up into second spot on the back of an 11-0 victory away at Prince Maurice B and had Quinton Taylor winning 3-0 with his best legs coming in 15 and 18.
Neil White and Rob May caught the eye in the doubles when, in a 2-0 victory, they took one of the 601 legs in 18.
Firkin Scholar produced arguably their best performance of the season to inflict on Bluebird an 11-0 defeat and had Brian Lumsden registering the week’s highest checkout with a kill of 148.
Porters A are now on level points with third placed Maritime after winning 7-4, inflicting on the Keyham side only their second defeat in 15 matches.
Scott Wapshott (100x13) was consistent throughout for the winners and team-mate Lewis Dare emerged a 3-1 winner in 18, 18 and 17.
Kieran Burns (100x16) was one of only two individual successes for the hosts, winning 3-1, aided by a leg in 15.
Plympton Cons defeated Prince Maurice A 7-4, but it was Micky Organ (above) for the Eggbuckland side that caught the eye, when he won his singles in three straight legs, finishing one of them with a kill of 131.
Indian Inn A were edged out 6-5 by Octagon A in a high-scoring encounter that produced five maximum scores.
Antony Hayman gave a good account of himself in week 14 when he emerged a 3-0 winner in 15, 19 and 13, posting a 31.98 average.
But he could not prevent his Brewery Tap side crashing to a 7-4 defeat away at the Tradesman who were buoyed by Neil Reid achieving the week’s highest outshot of 158.
Steam Packet B, restricted Cherry Tree B to just a point as they hit 54 ton plus scores which included a finish of 146 by Neil White, which came in a 3-1 singles victory.
The one point that eluded them was claimed by Stewart Roberts who defeated Mark Williams 3-2, despite the Devonport marksman winning his two legs with finishes of 100 and 116.
Maritime won 11-0 away at Indian Inn B and had joint high scorers in Kieran Burns (100x13) and Paul Palmer who also notched a brace of 180s.
In week 13, Octagon A found themselves 4-1 down away at Plympton Cons but took five of the last six singles including a 3-0 victory from Jaydon Dodd, aided by a leg in 14.
Glenn Halford recorded the week’s highest checkout of 147, while inspiring Prince Maurice A to an 8-3 success away at Porters B while Rob Thorning (100x12) was Bluebird A’s leading exponent as they edged out Steam Packet A 6-5.
The A side took maximum points in the Brookside derby match and were boosted by some good finishing.
Keelan Kay took out a 15-darter with a kill of 114 before going on to a 3-0 singles success while also on target with ton plus finishes were Gary Phillips (115) and Tony Tasker (112).
Phillips (31.31) had also showed good form in week 12 and in helping Brookside A to a 7-4 win over Indian Inn A, he emerged a 3-0 winner in 12, 14 and 22.
Fred Goldsmith (28.36) inspired Octagon A to an 11-0 whitewash of Steam Packet A with a 3-0 win in 19, 18 and 16 while another good individual winner was Alan Masters.
He emerged a 3-1 winner in 19, 19 and 18 but was on the wrong end of a 7-4 scoreline when Cherry Tree were beaten by Firkin Scholar.
The Tradesman defeated neighbours Octagon B 9-2 but not before the losers had Alfie Ford achieving the week’s highest checkout when finishing a 3-0 singles victory with a kill of 150.
