Competitive at top of table but Marauders still lead

IT is still very competitive at the top of the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League with only two points separating the leading three teams.

Tabletoppers Maritime Marauders won their derby match 7-4 against Musketeers in an excellent fixture that saw 106 ton plus scores recorded which included 32 throws of 140.

Dave Matthews emerged a 3-1 winner in 17, 17 and 20 while Phil Evans (100x15) and Peter Holland (100x13) were on target or Musketeers.

Another outstanding fixture was witnessed at the Brewery Tap when the hosts defeated Maritime Governors 7-4 who now drop off the pace.

There were 113 ton plus scores recorded led by Maria O’Brien (100x16) and Jordan Grimshaw (100x13) for “Tap” while responding for the visitors were Ewan Johnson (180x2) and Danny Allen (100x13).

Glyn Wells (100x18) was edged out 3-2 by Scott Hutchinson (100x14) despite his winning legs coming in 14 and 17 while Paul Palmer achieved a 27.83 average for the Governors when winning in 17, 18 and 19.

Jodie Hawton (pictured above) recorded the week’s top checkout with a mark of 146, but finished up on the wrong end of a 9-2 scoreline when Maritime Nutters were defeated 9-2 by The Office.

Victory A have now moved up the table to challenge the two teams above them after winning 9-2 at Indian Inn A and hitting 57 tons in the process.

Darren Collis (100x15) top scored and Kelvin Rowe secured his singles in three straight legs which included a 15-darter.

Fred Goldsmith (100x14) top scored for Fawn B in their 10-1 success away at Victory B while Fawn A and Cherry Tree both won 8-3 against Compton SC and Indian Inn B respectively.

Porters Patriots consolidated second spot with a 7-4 win against stablemates Pretenders while Octagon won 7-4 away at Duchy of Cornwall.

One game that caught the eye was an excellent 3-2 win for 13-year-old Frankie Stout against Octagon’s Ralph Lancaster.

Kings Arms defeated Falstaff 9-2, the only individual winner for the Southway side being Lewis Dare who won 3-2 aided by a checkout of 145.
