Bates earns plaudits with another sub 30 singles win

ANDY Bates (pictured) earned the plaudits in the Plymouth and District Friday League when, inspiring Royal Naval Arms A to an 11-2 victory over Railway Inn, he threw another sub-30 singles game.

He was also a force in the doubles when, partnered with Andrew Nation, the duo won in 33 (30.33) before Bates (34.52) went on to clinch his individual game in 29, which included a maximum and three throws of 140.

This victory has temporarily put the Keyham side top of the table but Kings Tamerton CC, who have a match in hand on their rivals also won in double figures when defeating Indian Inn B 10-3.

But it was Mark Hatherley (32.29) for the hosts who caught the eye winning his singles in 31 and also finishing the match as top scorer with 13 ton-plus throws which included two maximums.

A brace of 180s from Mark Shears was the highlight of The Windmill’s 13-0 drubbing of Bull and Bush while Porters edged out Weston Mill Oak Villa by the narrowest of margins and Steam Packet defeated Indian Inn A 10-3.

Paul Barclay (26.34) secured his singles in 38 helping Octagon Social Club to prevail by the narrowest of margins against Dinky Diner B while The Tradesman defeated Mainstone SC 9-4.

City Social A took maximum points from The Fawn and had Glyn Wells finishing his doubles game with an outshot of 107, a checkout that surprisingly was not beaten, before going on to clinch his singles in 31 (32.29).

No fewer than nine teams won in double figures this week and Brewery Tap A were no exception as they overcame City Social B 13-0, the highlight being a 36-dart doubles success for Antony Hayman and Sue Pullen (27.81).

City Social C were given a 13-0 walkover when Victory Inn failed to make an appearance while Queen and Constitution and Dinky Diner A both won 11-2 against Royal Naval Arms B and Queens Dock respectively.
