Porters open up a four-point advantage in title quest

PORTERS increased their advantage at the top of the Plymouth City Super League to four points, when they secured a maximum win away at Kings Arms B with the loss of just a single leg.

Second placed Maritime A defeated their stablemates Maritime C 8-3 in a well contested fixture that saw 108 scores of a ton or more recorded.

Quintin Taylor emerged a 3-2 winner in 19, 19 and 20 but in the best singles of the match, Dave Matthews defeated Frankie Stout 3-1 with both players notching a brace of 180s.

Matthews’ legs were claimed in 16, 14, 14 with 13-year-old Frankie’s being won in 15.

Plympton Cons A secured all but one of the 11 points on offer when they hosted Victoria and had Dave Collins (26.37) emerging a 3-0 winner in 15, 21, 21.

Andy Malinowski (pictured) also gave a good account of himself when top-scoring with 13 throws of a ton or more which included the week’s highest checkout of 146.

The Albemarle won 8-3 on their visit to St Levan Inn while Octagon Social Club overcame Plympton Cons B 9-2.

Neil Meneer emerged a 3-1 winner for Octagon, aided by a brace of 180s and two legs in 14.

Ker St Social Club won 9-2 away at Compton Social Club, the same winning scoreline that was also achieved by The Staddy when visiting The Clifton.

Dave Algar emerged a 3-2 winner with his best leg coming in 15 while Marc Cresswell (100x13) hit two 180s in a 3-1 victory that was achieved in 14, 17, 19.

Neil Reid caught the eye with a 3-1 singles success in 17, 18, 21, inspiring The Tradesman to a 7-4 success away at Cherry Tree while Bill Scannell (100x11) top scored in Fawn’s 7-4 defeat of The Bluebird.

Maritime B were taken the full distance on their visit to Kings Arms A but with the scoreline evenly poised at 5-5 and 2-2 in the last singles, Rich Wheatley threw a 13-darter to claim a Maritime victory.

Three-figure checkouts were achieved by: John Mann (137), James Baker (116), Dave Collins (110), Tony Lamerton (105), Dave Matthews (100), Frankie Stout (100).
