Patriots and Misfits open up significant advantage

THREE teams lost their undefeated tag in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League to leave just Porters Patriots and Maritime Misfits with an unblemished record after four weeks of competition and the duo are beginning to open up a significant advantage at the top of the table.

League leaders Patriots defeated Brewery Tap 8-3 and once again had John Mann (100x16) as their talisman. He won 3-1 with his best legs being taken in 14 and 15 while for the visitors, a 15-darter was the highlight of Maria O’Brien’s 3-0 victory.

Maritime Misfits consolidated second spot following an 11-0 whitewash of Indian Inn and had Dave Matthews (100x12) winning 3-0, aided by a leg in 13.

Victory Inn A were another side to take maximum points when they visited The Clifton, the highlight being a 2-0 doubles win for Keelan Kay and Kelvin Rowe, aided by a 601 leg in 18 darts.

Maritime Governors suffered their first defeat when they were edged out 6-5 by Octagon Social Club but not before they had Scott Hutchinson (28.90) giving a good account of himself.

The marksman top scored with 14 throws of a ton or more which included three maximums and he was prominent in the singles when winning 3-0 in 15, 16, 21.

Torpoint Cons and Fawn B lost for the first time when they both went down by the narrowest of margins against The Office and Fawn A respectively, Andrew Nation emerging a 3-1 winner for The Office with his best game being won in 15.

Kings Arms returned from The Falstaff with an 8-3 success while Victory Inn B and Porters Pretenders were both 10-1 winners against Maritime Nutters and Cherry Tree respectively.

Mark Yeoman (pictured), for Pretenders, recorded the week’s top checkout with a mark of 149 while other notable checkouts were achieved by: Rob May (129/116), Richard Wheatley (129), Alfie Ford (120), Scott Hutchinson (120), Ralph Lancaster (117), Paul Gavican (112), Mark Hempsall (105).
