One Hollow Does A Summer Make

Dave Hollow's fourteen ton plusses led his Colebrook side to a tight 6-5 victory over Ker St in what was an enthralling game in the Plymouth City Super League.

Hollow managed the two highest checkouts of the match with his own 80 being usurped by a fine 116 checkout and also added one of two maximums; Andy Bond with the other.

In a 3-2 singles win, Hollow checked a crucial 15 dart leg but the Plympton side didn't have it all their own way.

Ralph Lancaster top scored for the defeated team with twelve tons whilst Paul Tackle hit eleven and made it 5-5 with a 3-1 win before Steve Hiscox held his nerve with a fine 3-1 win to give his team the win.

James Stoodley netted himself a brace of 180s on his way to fourteen ton plusses in a 7-4 win for Bluebird A in their visit to Fawn A.

Stoodley was one of three players from the Compton team to reach double figures as Glenn Halford and Glenn Austin reached thirteen and ten respectively.

Halford added a 180 to that rather impressive total whilst Stoodley and Austin (35.75) paired to take their 1001 doubles game in just 28 darts.

Stoodley wasn't done there as he chalked up a 16 dart leg in his singles, which was only beaten on the night by a 14 darter by teammate Halford in his success by the same score line.

Despite ending the wrong side of a defeat, the Greenbank team's talismanic figure, Simon Stevenson, managed thirteen ton plusses on the night.

Mark Sargeant bagged himself eleven tons, including the game's only maximum, but his Fawn B team still ended up on the wrong side of a 7-4 loss to Bluebird B.

In a 3-2 singles win, Sargeant also helped himself to a 16 darter and the highest checkout of the match with a fine 128 three dart combination.

After a bye in the first week, new look champions King Billy won their first game of the season at home to Victory C 9-2 with the help of Scott Wapshott's eleven ton plusses.

Wapshott added one of six maximums to the scoreboard as he was joined in the feat by teammates Antony Hayman, Paul Palmer, Paul Goundry and Lee Doncaster.

A pair of legs in 14 from Antony Hayman (30.67) in his 3-0 win bettered a 16 darter from Wapshott in another whitewash singles victory.

Jason Goldsmith was the outstanding player for the defeated team with ten ton plusses whilst Quinton Taylor added the game's sixth maximum in one of two ties won on the night by his team.

Reigning Player of the Year George Beckett led his Steampacket team to a 6-5 win over Saltram with a ten ton haul that included one of two maximums for his team.

Beckett added a 17 dart leg to his 3-2 win in the individuals, which bettered an 18 darter in a 3-1 win for Marc Webber who was the game's other 180 hitter.

Webber also added a finish of 118 to his night's work, which beat a fine 81 from Saltram's Dave Algar in his 3-1 individual win.

Super League newbie Nick Miller took the highest checkout of the week honours with a fine 146 checkout in a 9-2 success for a depleted Victory B.

Teammates Steve Mills and John Greatrex both produced their own moments of magic as the pair both bagged maximums for themselves on a good night individually, and as a team.

Kings Arms A got their season up and running with a 7-4 win over Clifton that featured a Darren Bailey 98 checkout and ten tons from Mike Sant.

A first win for the Kings Arms B team, which saw Paul Carpenter check 92 in a single visit, came at the expense of Hyde Park who were brushed aside 9-2.

Newcomers Duchy of Cornwall got themselves a much needed maiden success of the campaign with a 7-4 win that saw Jordan Heath finish 95 for the highest of the match.
