Goves rolls back the years in Torpoint Cons victory

JOHN Goves, the inaugural winner of Champion of Champions in 1985, rolled back the years with a performance in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League, that inspired Torpoint Cons to a 7-4 victory against Indian Inn.

He secured his singles 3-1, aided by a leg in 15 and top scored with 14 throws of a ton or more which included an out shot of 120.

Only eight weeks into the new campaign, Porters Patriots can already boast a 16-point advantage over their nearest rivals, following an11-0 drubbing of The Clifton.

In winning their 601 doubles, John Mann (100x14) and Robbie Bisgrove took out an 18-darter and Mann was also on target in his singles with a 15-dart leg.

Team mate Malcolm Johns claimed one of his winning legs in 14 and Andy Bates hit two maximums before Antony Hayman claimed the week’s highest checkout with a mark of 126.

Dan Brazier (100x13) caught the eye for Porters Pretenders in their 8-3 victory away at Compton and was well supported by Mark Shears who emerged a 3-0 in the individual phases with his best leg being taken in 15.

Maritime Marauders won 8-3 away at City Social in a high scoring fixture that saw 100 throws of a ton or more recorded.

Dan Puleston and Mike Pearce impressed in the 601 doubles winning 2-0 in 23 and 18 for a 29.32 average.

Duchy of Cornwall forged themselves a 9-2 victory on their visit to Waterloo while Maritime Misfits and Fawn B both won 7-4 against Cherry Tree and Fawn A respectively.

An 801 treble, won in 28 darts (28.61) by Dave Collins, Andy Malinowski and Dan Malinowski helped Plympton Cons to a 2-0 lead over Brookside but were then forced to win the last three singles in order to prevail 6-5.

Kelvin Rowe hit two maximums for Brookside while Octagon Social Club and Maritime Musketeers both won 8-3 against Kings and Arms and Falstaff respectively.
