Halford comes from behind to claim No.1 singles spot

PORTERS finished the job in hand with aplomb, and after winning their final match of the season, away at Ker St Social Club, were crowned Plymouth City Super League champions by an 11-point margin.

Maritime A won their final match in double figures at St Levan Inn to take runners-up spot, 17 points clear of third placed Octagon Social Club.

But earning the plaudits in his final fixture was the league’s no.1 ranked player, Glenn Halford (pictured).

His Bluebird side hosted Plympton Cons A and with the singles to play Cons led 3-2 before the first individual game pitted Halford against Kelvin Rowe.

Halford went into the fixture leading the individual table but only one clear of second placed Stew Roberts who was also competing for Maritime A.

Rowe led 2-0, only for Halford to show his credentials and win 3-2 to take the singles crown with 36 wins from 38 matches.

He also topped the 180s table with a season’s tally of 30 and hit the most tons in a single match when notching 21.

Halford will be hoping to finish an eventful season on Friday week (July 12), when he will be competing for the Players Championship crown which will take place at the Maritime Social Club.

Results (reserve week 1): Bluebird 5, Plympton Cons A 6; Kings Arms A 6, Victoria 5; Ker St 0, Porters 11; St Levan Inn 1, Maritime A 10.
