Kings Arms challenge for second spot in Top 20 Lge

KINGS Arms have moved up into joint second place in the Porters Function Room 501 Top 20 League after taking maximum points from their visit to Victory Inn B.

Paul Palmer was on target with a brace of 180s while Warren Gordon was their leading marksman with 16 throws of a ton or more.

Porters Patriots defeated Victory Inn A 8-3, but Antony Hayman and Andy Bates were pushed out of the top three in the singles table when they were defeated by Tony Tasker (3-0) and Neil White (3-1) respectively.

The Governors won the Maritime derby game by a 7-4 margin and had Scott Hutchinson (25.91) emerging a 3-0 winner in 18, 17 and 23 with team-mate Lee Hellings (100x15) top scoring.

Frankie Stout (pictured), at just 14 years of age, continues to take the scalps of seasoned players and he was again prominent when winning 3-1 in 16, 20 and 16 for a 26.16 average.

The Clifton defeated Indian Inn 7-4 while Fawn B edged out Brewery Tap 6-5, despite holding a commanding lead.

Mike O’Brien won 3-1, aided by a leg in 15 to put the visitors 5-1 up only for Brewery Tap to start a revival, which included a win in 21, 17 and 19 for Maria O’Brien (26.37) only to be finally edged out 6-5.

There was another close encounter at Torpoint Cons where the hosts went down by the narrowest of margins to Octagon Social Club.

Alfie Ford and Dave Pethick both won, aided by legs in 15 but at 5-5, Ralph Lancaster clinched the winner when he edged out Lee Rodmell 3-2.

Porters Pretenders returned from Maritime Nutters with a 9-2 victory, the highlight being a 2-0 doubles win for James Stoodley and James Duke with one of the 601 legs being claimed in 20.

Mike Nancholas (100x13) clinched the 11th and deciding point which enabled Fawn A to edge out Falstaff 6-5 while King Billy defeated Maritime Musketeers 8-3.

Simon Washington was King Billy’s leading marksman with 18 throws of a ton or more while team-mate Sam Evans recorded the week’s highest checkout of 154.

Other notable finishes were achieved by: Brian Gourlay (123), Dave Pethick (120), Dave Clemson (111), Al Ewing (108), Andrew Waters (108), Ian Downing (102), Simon Washington (100).
