Carter Heroics Keep Cherry On Top

The wheels on Cherry Tree D's start to their Plymouth City Super League Division B campaign kept turning after a 6-5 win over second placed Fawn A gave them a twelve point lead and twelve wins from twelve starts.

Keith Carter was at the forefront with fourteen scores of a ton or more that included the game's only maximum whilst Carter also added his team's biggest checkout of 93.

Carter was supported well by teammate Nick Bryant who ended on ten tons whilst the hero of the hour was Arthur Pearce who came through a tough 3-2 success in the final singles rubber with the scores tied at 5-5.

Pearce survived a 112 kill from opponent Bill Scannell whilst Scannell's teammate Dave Roberts was the best in the scoring phase of his six strong cohort.

Roberts ended his night on twelve tons overall and with a 3-0 individual success that came with the help of a leg in 17 darts.

Dave Pethick was also a sharpshooter for the away side with a 90 checkout whilst Bryant also came away from the oche with a 3-0 triumph that contained a leg in 18.

Kings Tamerton A kept in touch with a group of five that are split by five points in their quest for second place with a 7-4 win over Cherry Tree B that saw Phil Hoyle top score with twelve scores of a ton or more.

Hoyle's tally was topped up to that impressive total by a 100 checkout that was the best checkout of the game, which came in a superb doubles game by Hoyle and teammate Lee Soper.

Hoyle and Soper (30.82) put together 601 legs in just 20 and 19 darts to team up for the best legs of the evening.

Danny Hoyle showed his class in the scoring phase with eleven three figure scores whilst the only moment of magic for the defeated team came from the arm of Paul Hoare in the form of an 81 checkout.

Eleven tons rained down from Jack Heath for Duchy A but his team still ended on the wrong side of a 9-2 defeat at Legends Lounge.

That win was led by the power scoring from James Ewing who added ten tons overall whilst Will Broome was the recipient of a 'game shot' call from the first of asking at 110.

Hyde Park's two pronged attack of ten tons each from Lee Dennis and Ben Welsh was eventually thwarted by Kings Tamerton B who came away with a 6-5 win on the last game thanks to Nick Coles' 3-1 win.

Welsh's tally was topped up to the double figure mark by one of a trio of maximums in the game with the others going to Paul Freeman and John Goodall for the victors.

Goodall was a 3-2 singles winner thanks in part to a leg in 18 whilst Chegwin repeated Goodall's heroics with a 17 darter and a 130 checkout in his five leg win; a finish that bettered a 95 from Welsh.

Mike Bassett fired a checkout of 122 and a 15 dart leg to give Fawn B the platform to take a 6-5 success over Victoria.

That effort was the only finish to better a 97 from Mick Bingham for the defeated team whilst Bingham's teammate Gary Eaton was the only player to hear a '180' call after throwing.

Mark Sargeant gave his team the bragging rights with a 3-1 win in the last game of the tie whilst the only notable moment of a 10-1 win for Victory at Duchy B was a 91 checkout from AJ Brunton.

A 6-5 win for St Levans at Kings Arms A contained three maximums as the former got the better of their opponents in that particular stat by the same solitary point as the match result.

Ian Duncan and Tex Pearce added to Pete Down's 180 whilst the best checkout of 80 came from the arm of John Sturdy for the victors.
