Hyde Park Claim First Win Despite Sarge Surge

Hyde Park claimed their first victory of the campaign after eighteen straight losses as they overcame Fawn B 6-5 in an entertaining basement clash between the bottom two in the Plymouth City Super League.

Despite finishing up on the wrong end of the scoreline, it was the Greenbank side's Mark Sargeant who dominated in the scoring stakes to claim twelve ton plusses.

One of those three figure scores was a brilliant 116 checkout that proved decisive in Sargeant's 3-2 singles win.

The Hyde Park also won out in 180s with Lee Dennis and Andy Hawes notching for the Hyde Park and Fawn's Mike Bassett adding one of his own to bring the evening's total to three between the two sides.

The match ebbed and flowed with no team ever leading by more than one leg until Hyde Park claimed a sixth point to make it 6-4 and the Peverell team.

The other Fawn team, the A side, faired much better thanks to the contributions of Dave Roberts and Mike Nancholas who scored twelve and ten tons respectively in their 8-3 home win over Victoria.

Roberts joined teammate Dan Bunney in hitting a maximum with Phil Walsh returning fire for the Plymstock side with one of his own in the only moment of note for his team.

King Billy kept up their relentless march to the league title after another 11-0 victory, this time over Ker St, in a match that saw no fewer than four players reach double figures in ton plusses.

Antony Hayman and John Mann were the most prominent with twelve tons each but it was Hayman who outdid his teammate in the maximum scores with a massive three to Mann's two.

Their stablemate Andy Bates chalked up eleven tons of his own whilst Scott Wapshott hit ten and Paul Palmer claimed the highest checkout of the tie with a fine 100 finish.

Octagon look most likely to claim the runners up behind the Devonport team after a 9-2 win over Steampacket to put them six off second with twenty-two extra points to play for than their rivals due to games in hand.

Lee Hellings was most prominent with twelve ton plusses that included the highest finish of the week of 144 in three darts.

Hellings also claimed an 18 darter on his way to a 3-1 singles win that keeps him net top of the individual table due to the Stonehouse side's games in hand over Hellings' rivals for the crown.

Despite the result, George Beckett once again was prominent for the defeated Devonport side as he claimed ten tons of his own with seven of those being two and three treble visits.

Beckett (28.36) won his singles 3-0 thanks to legs of 16 and 17 darts and also claimed one of two maximums in the tie with Octagon's James Ewing scoring the other.

Victory A maintained their slim six point lead over Octagon thanks to matching their 9-2 scoreline with their victims being Clifton.

Mark Gilbery and Cameron Pickard were both prominent for the Honicknowle team with both claiming ten tons.

However, it was Gilbery who outdid his teammate Pickard in 180s with Gilbery notching two to Pickard's one.

Clifton had to work hard for the points they won with Ross Blake securing an 18 darter in his 3-2 win whilst Wayne Town notched a 142 finish in his success by the same scoreline.

The man Town defeated, Kelvin Rowe, had himself put away a finish of 100 in one visit in one of the two legs he won to no avail.

Two teams are now locked on 135 points in joint fourth place after Victory C's 7-4 win over their B team and Bluebird A's 8-3 triumph over Saltram.

Lewis Dare and Scott Cook were most prominent for the successful Victory team with twelve tons each whilst teammate Paul Goundry claimed ten tons.

Paddy Archibald was also on form with legs of 16 and 17 darts, and a 100 checkout whilst Dare also claimed his team's only maximum.

It wasn't all one way traffic with Richard Wheatley gunning two maximums of his own and Mark Williams claiming ten ton plusses for the defeated B team.

Bluebird A's win that brought them level with Victory C was dominated in the scoring stakes by Glenn Halford and Alan Masters who scored eleven and ten respectively for the victorious Compton side.

Halford's 15 dart leg was bettered by Masters leg in 14 and Masters went on to claim the highest checkout of the evening with a 96 kill.

Masters also joined teammate Lee Roberts in securing a maximum each on a brilliant night both personally and as a team.

Colebrook continued their good run of form with a 9-2 win over St Levans that saw Darren Smith once again rise to the occasion with ten ton plusses.

Teammate Steve Hiscox secured a 118 checkout, the third highest of the week, whilst Sarah Brown scored a maximum for the defeated Keyham side in their only moment of note during the contest.

Roger Backway top scored for the Kings B with ten tons as the Oreston side won 7-4 away at Raffles.

Martyn Down chalked up the highest checkout of 100 whilst teammates Dave Johns and Rob Oak claimed a maximum a piece on a good night for the visitors.

Cherry Tree claimed a 6-5 win over Bluebird Bandits thanks to a 3-0 win in the last matchup of the night for Rick Trinder who also claimed an 88 finish in the match.
