Jack Of All Trades, Master Of Tons

Jack McMinn and Scott Cook produced one of the best games in Plymouth darting history in the Steve Chapman 501 League with no leg going beyond five visits to the board in a 3-2 win for the former.

McMinn's success, in which he bagged legs in 15, 15 and 12 darts, helped turn the tide for champions Fawn B who recovered from deficits of 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2 to win 6-5 on the last game against Cook's King Billy.

Cook himself rattled in 13 and 15 darters as the world class contest provided twenty scores of a ton or more between two of the best players around.

McMinn's 116 checkout in one of the trio of legs he won ended up being crucial in deciding the outcome of the match whilst Cook's riposte included two of the eight maximums added between the two teams.

McMinn led the way in the ton scoring overall with seventeen three figure scores for his night's work whilst Cook was the best of his cohort with a dozen ton plusses throughout the tight encounter.

It seems a shame to relegate such a standard to mere footnote, but John Mann's night that included fifteen scores of a ton or more was unfortunately usurped by the the two outstanding players of the night.

That total included no fewer than four maximums and his 15 darter proved crucial in deciding the outcome of his 3-2 win over Andrew Cook.

Other maximums in the matchup came from Cook's teammates Lewis Byrne and Brandon Hartley to make it four apiece in the three treble visits to complete the octet.

After falling to 4-2 behind, McMinn's win was a turning point and allowed teammate Lee Agar to level at 4-4 in a 3-0 win that included a leg in 17.

Mann than showed his undoubted class before Frankie Stout got the better of Fred Goldsmith 3-1 despite a 15 darter that was put away with a 126, which was the highest checkout of the match and week across all fixtures.

That left the game on a knife edge and the brilliant Simon Washington showed why he has become a permanent fixture in the Devon county A team with a 3-1 success that saw a 120 checkout his best moment.

Lee Hellings performance was one of the main reasons why Cherry Tree C were able to come away from their trip to Trademans with a 10-1 win.

Hellings (27.83) added legs in 16 and 17 darts during his 3-0 success, which sat nicely alongside eleven scores of a ton or more throughout the contest.

Despite Hellings ton tally being propped up by the only maximum in the game, his scoring efforts were supplanted by Nick Bryant.

Bryant heard scores of a ton or more called thirteen times after throwing and also lit up the individual phase with a 3-0 win that contained legs in 17 and 18 darts.

Bryant showed he is a team player in the doubles phase when pairing with Dave Lee for a 19 darter over the 601 distance.

The best leg of 501 actually came from a member of the defeated opposition as Mitchell Grimshaw showed his continued immense potential with a 15 darter in a 3-1 loss.

The stage was lit up by Mike Pearce who nailed 17 ton plusses overall for St Levans as the away side were 8-3 winners at Cherry Tree D.

Pearce's tally was topped up by a 110 checkout that narrowly bettered a 106 from teammate and brother Tex Pearce.

Pearce's heroics were not curtailed to the scoring phase as he plundered legs in 16, 18 and 16 darts during a 3-1 individual triumph.

Lee Wickett was in a good for all throughout the defeat for his side with twelve ton plusses whilst teammate Kev Lofthouse added the only maximum of the tie.

The magical '180' was called eleven times during Cherry Tree B's 10-1 win at Indian Inn as Mark Hatherley's thirteen scores of a ton or more was topped up by two of those maxis for the defeated team.

Hatherley had to survive two 180s from opponent Paul Gavican in a 3-2 success in which Hatherley's 12 darter proved to be crucial.

The three trebles visits rained down from the second game of the night starting with one each from Ian Heggie and Mark Shears in a trebles win for Shears away side.

Hatherley added his first in the next game with a riposte performed by Scott Wapshott for his only effort of the contest that came in a 2-0 doubles win.

Jason Pinkerton added one of his brace in the second doubles before home captain Louis Yates notched his team's third 180 of the contest so far in two more 2-0 reversals for Yates' outfit.

Heggie continued the trend of at least one maximum in each of the last five games in a row with his second of the night in a 3-2 individual loss to Phil Hoyle.

The flurry of maxis then ran a little dry until Jason Pinkerton's 3-0 win that contained his second 180 of the night before the best was saved until last with Hatherley and Gavican's trio between them.

Neal Walters thirteen tons included a 100 checkout to help Victory Fireballs win 8-3 at Beacon Park with Walters adding and 18 darter and 92 whilst Phil Ingram and Chris Beale put up a 97 kill and a 180 respectively.

Robbie Bisgrove was right at the heart of Octagon's 8-3 success at Bar Mez with twelve tons whilst teammate Dave Pethick netted himself a 123 checkout for the best of all thirty-two finishes in the matchup.

Three 180s made the difference for Kings Arms in their 11-0 win over Firkin Scholar as Paul Palmer, Mark Yeoman and Paul Hendy all fired.

In one of the three legs the away side managed, Scott Heggie checked 105 in a three dart combination during a close fought 3-2 defeat.

An 8-3 win for Fawn A over The Exchange was dominated by a performance from Liam Taylor who added a 180 to his 17 darter in a 3-0 individual success.

The only moment of solace from the defeated away side came from the arm of Tom Andrews who checked 85 in a single visit.

Maximums from Kelvin Rowe and Scott Lawrey provided the ammunition to shoot Victory A to an 11-0 success in their visit to Cherry Tree A.

Ryan Harris was the star of the show for Victory Hammers with a 180 in an 8-3 win for his Honicknowle side over Duchy.
