Kirsty Thirsty For 170

Kirsty Whiting-O'Brien became the first player this Plymouth City Super League season to net a 'big fish' 170 checkout in Victory's 10-1 Division A defeat against King Billy.

That incredible effort was one of five ton plus finishes in a top class contest with the man that was on the receiving end Whiting-O'Brien's effort, Paul Palmer, netting three of those.

Palmer's three dart combinations were 112, 119 and 100 to go alongside a 116 by his teammate Antony Hayman.

Hayman added fourteen more tons to his tally whilst Palmer ended his night on fourteen scores of a ton or more.

Whiting-O'Brien's stablemate Lee Lagor was the Honicknowle side's top scoring player with ten tons whilst Chris Beale put up the home team's only maximum.

Lee Doncaster and Paul Goundry also fired a three treble visit whilst Mark Yeoman added a brace of maximums to make it a quintet of 180s.

Hayman and Palmer both shone in the individual phase with Palmer (26.54) bagging legs in 15 and 17 darts in his 3-1 success over Whiting-O'Brien.

Hayman (29.47) was also a recipient of a 'game shot' call after throwing 15 and 17 darts during his emphatic 3-0 triumph.

John Mann fired champions elect, Octagon, to a 9-2 win over Cherry Tree A with fifteen ton plusses his contribution.

Mann was well supported by the endeavours of Fred Goldsmith who added eleven tons whilst Lee Hellings was also influential in fits and starts.

Hellings added a game best 100 checkout to his three maximums whilst the first game of the match provided the top average.

Mann teamed with Alfie Ford and Quinton Taylor (31.28) to knit together 1001 points in just 32 darts before Mann and Taylor (27.32) added a 20 dart 601 leg in their 2-0 doubles win.

Mann (26.29) finished off his stellar night with legs in 17 and 16 darts during his 3-1 individual success whilst the defeated away side's two points came from two fine singles wins.

Nick Miller's 14 darter proved crucial in a 3-2 win whilst Steve Mills (23.12) checked an 18 darter in his 3-0 triumph.

Saltram may been defeated 6-5 at home by Indian Inn, but Rob Nankivell still had time to put twelve tons onto the scoreboard.

Reg Matthews also showed a moment of his undoubted class with a 16 darter in a 3-2 individual defeat that could have changed the destination of the win had it gone the other way.

Owen Cook led the scoring for Bluebird A with eleven tons during a 10-1 success over Fawn A in which teammate James Stoodley was also in decent form.

Stoodley added ten tons to the score sheet whilst Glenn Austin was the only 180 hitter for the triumphant Compton side.

Bill Scannell added a maximum for the defeated team whilst the visitors' only point came from a Dave Roberts 3-0 win over Glenn Halford that contained a modest but respectable 65 checkout.

Simon Kelly continued his pursuit of the divisional individual title and ended the night with ten tons and another win during a 6-5 defeat for Kings Arms B at Legends Lounge.

The second placed St Budeaux team went 4-1 up in a spell that saw Mark Shears hit one of the two maximums he plundered on the night.

Dan Brazier added a 180 of his own whilst Dave Johns was the only member of the visiting party to hear '180' called after throwing.

Johns bested young Frankie Stout 3-1 with Johns' 164 checkout bettering a 116 by Stout in the highest checkout honours list.

George Beckett joined his aforementioned individual title rival, Kelly, on twenty wins from twenty starts in what was a pulsating 6-5 win for Colebrook over Beckett's Steampacket.

Beckett's teammate Matt Thompson top scored in that affair with ten tons; a haul that included the team's only maximum.

James Ewing added a brace of 180s for the visitors whilst a 91 checkout by Phil Taylor claimed the best kill of all thirty-four checkouts in the game.

Beckett (25.05) roundly defeated his individual opponent 3-0 and was one of only two comfortable winners as nine of the eleven games were decided by a solitary leg.

In Division B, already crowned champions, Cornwall Gates, signed off their remarkable first season as a team by completing an unbeaten season with a 9-2 win over Kings Tamerton.

Simon Stevenson fired twelve tons in the match and ended the campaign with exactly the same record as his team on twenty-two wins from twenty-twenty starts to take the individual crown.

Stevenson also added the divisional 180 title to his haul of honours with nineteen maximums for the season, which was eleven clear of the next best competitor, and three more than anybody in Division A.

Stevenson's (27.83) 3-0 success came with the help of legs in 17 and 18 darts whilst teammate Matt Vosper was a ten ton hitter for the inaugural Division B title winners.

Vosper added the team's only maximum to his tally and ended his night with a 3-0 win that contained a 16 darter that was the best leg of the tie.

Col Maddocks continued his impressive form at the business end of legs with a 92 checkout that was the best finish of the matchup.

Maddocks finishing exploits across the campaign have been well documented; none more so than the 156 that takes the Division B highest finish of the season.

Clifton and Ker St will join Cornwall Gates in Division A next season after Ker St confirmed their third placed finish with a 7-4 win over runner-up Clifton.

Wayne Town dominating the scoring phase for the defeated side with twelve tons whilst teammate Kev Seal added a maximum to his ten tons.

Town checked a leg in 18 but still found himself on the end of a 3-1 defeat in a 'Town Derby' of sorts as Scott Town bettered his rival after throwing his team's only maximum earlier in the contest.

Dan Jewell put up a third 180 of the matchup whilst another 18 darter was plundered by former Champion of Champions Neil Holder during his 3-1 win.

An 80 three dart combination out shot by the marvellously evergreen Ralph Lancaster claimed the highest checkout plaudits.

Fawn B missed out on a top half finish by just three points despite Alan Brady and Mike Bassett's maximums during a 7-4 defeat against Kings Arms A.

Checkouts of 84 by Mike Sant and an 88 from teammate Dave Hickman helped the Oreston side end their campaign with the victory.

Duchy B end the season with the league's wooden spoon after a 10-1 success for Victoria that contained a Phil Walsh 98 checkout and a maximum by Mick Bingham.

Rob Wills fired a 100 checkout for the best finish of the week, but still found himself unluckily on the end of a 6-5 defeat as Duchy A were downed by St Levans.

Wills' teammate Jack Heath added the game's only maximum and an 87 checkout before Mark Hopkins won out 3-1 in the final tie of the contest with the scores tied at 5-5.

Cherry Tree B narrowly missed out on promotion by two points after winning 6-5 at Hyde Park thanks to Tony Reid's 3-1 win that was put away in the eleventh and final matchup of a game that was locked at 5-5.

Heather Toney's 90 checkout helped her team build a lead of 3-0 and 4-2 before the Peverell outfit roared back in the singles to force the decider.
